Reviews for Salvadorean Bakery

Citysearch Editorial Review – Hidden in the downstairs of a very plain building, the Salvadorean Bakery churns out treats that are anything but. The long hallway off the main room serves as an ordering counter, display case and supermarket aisle. If you’re eating in, there is a huge dining room to the side. Décor is spare, but with food this impressive, you won’t pay attention to the ratty furniture and dingy walls. Offerings range from elaborate Tres Leches cakes in a variety of flavors to individual pastries, both sweet and savory. Many of the treats they put out are not made anywhere else in the city, but the lack of competition doesn’t mean they’ve let their guard down. Everything is fantastic, as strange as some of the items may sound. The real winner here, though, is the pupusa, a traditional Salvadorean snack food consisting of griddled dough stuffed with the filling of your choice, from meaty pork rinds to the most traditional cheese and loroco—a green vegetable common in Salvadorean food.

Get the plato guanaco – Excellent Salvadorean food. If you've never tried pupusas, you must, thick tortillas with meat and cheese inside. The tamales are soft and flavorful. Just beware that since it is a small place and food is made to order, it can take time to get your food. Just know this in advance. The desserts are terrific too!

Oh how I love this place... – I come here to pick up a cake all too often it seems. Their tres leches cake is so scrumptious, that I now have my brothers begging me to "try" and make one myself so that they don't have to drive all the way out to West Seattle to pick it up. There are many other great things on the menu to try (depending on whether you are looking for something sweet or savory), but this cake is a definite must-try. Very milky and rich, it's definitely not for those who are trying to watch their figures (okay, well one bite won't hurt!). The family that owns this place is also very sweet and helpful as well.
