Tony Bourdain might not be a fan -- he said so on the Seattle episode of The Layover -- but there's nothing that says Seattle quite like this iconic structure. Zoom to the top for an incredible view, but be sure and read about its fascinating history. It's on the pricey side, but well worth it. Expect long lines in the busy summer months, though you can dodge the crowds if you hit it early or late.

Tickets to get to the top aren't cheap but the wealth of Seattle-based knowledge and stellar views you walk away with are priceless. Even on a cloudy day, it is worth the trip up!

She is a beauty and while views of her from around the city have started to be blocked I'm always happy to catch a glimpse of her.Grab a ticket and enjoy the view!

This sleek, retro-futurist form has become the all-purpose icon for Seattle. – The Background
The story goes that a Seattle businessman was musing about possible centerpieces for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair when he penciled the needle shape onto a coffeehouse placemat. Forty years later, no one is living in "Jetsons"-type sky houses, but every day, tourists line up at the Space Needle to see what it could be like.

The Appeal
The observation deck may not have the best view in Seattle, but on a sunny day, the 360-degree panorama is stunning. Head directly to the outside railings, where maps mounted around the rim will tell you which mountain and skyscraper is which. But the best source of information is your glass-elevator guide on the 43-second trip to the top: The Space Needle hires out-of-work actors and comedians who dare you to stump them with any question about the city.

Can't go to seattle without going to the space needle – The space needle is a must stop for tourist or anyone that is new to the area. The view is spectacular. It is kind of expensive to go up an elevator. However, the experience is worth it. Also, there are some rides nearby that are fun for kids.

Paying for the view! – This spining restaurant is a very nice spot for out of town tourists. I, for one, is the tourist that visited the space needle like everybody else. The food cannot compare with those popular restaurant; but it still costs more than those fancy restaurant because of it's location and attraction. It is a nice restaurant to impress your date or to bring a out of town friends to. But it is certainly not a good restaurant to visit for gourmet dining. Our entrees were just ok, the braised beef with chocolate sauces and the Seafood Mixed Grill we were not very speical. But it is done nicely, not over cooked nor under. The food was a big greasy than it supposed to be. I don't understand why does it need so much oil to cook seafood. My risotto cake was practically covered in oil. It is lack of the wow factor, however. My waitress wasn't very attentive, we have to waive to get her attention. Overall, it's a tour spot, you are there for the view not the food.

One of Seattle best kept secrets – Sunday Brunch at the needle is an inspiring event that we share with all guests who come to the Emerald City. A full course breakfast, delightfully served by considerate staff who anticipate your wishes.

Almost perfect! – Everything about this restaraunt is done perfectly. The decor, the mood, every seat is the best seat in the house. The view is always different because the restaraunt rotates around the needle. They accomodated all of our requests with a smile. They seemed genuinly concerned about how things were and if anything needed changing, which it didn't, it was perfect! They helped with our wine selection and we were able to sample different wines for free untill we decided on one. We had a wonderful night but the bill was massive...close to $200 after tax and tip.

Get your bearings – If you've never been to Seattle this may be a good place to start to get an idea of how the city is laid out etc. The monorail ride from downtown was a fun way to get to/from the Space Needle. The tacky giftshop makes the attraction seem very commercial.

What a view! – Spectacular view! Can see most of Seattle from up here. Long line during the day, but gets less crowded at night.

I can see for miles and miles – What a way to kick off our anniversary with lunch on a beautiful day. Our hotel called ahead for reservation. Upon arriving we were promptly moved to the front of line to elevator. Staff was friendly and interested in us. Lunch was excellent. Only the view would compete. Even the staff for the ground floor gift shop went out of their way. The best way to be introduced to Seattle. Did do the observation deck, but after lunch and already getting the 360 view with lunch we could have passed.
