Just kind of ok. – I went to Coastal Kitchen with some girlfriends for lunch and thought that their menu was pretty cool. They have special items on their menu that they choose by country to showcase that cuisine and I really liked that idea. When I was there, they did Jamaica, and the restaurant was decorated accordingly. The ambiance was great, we didn't wait long although it was pretty busy, and our server was nice. I wasn't very impressed with the food. I had fish & chips and it was pretty dry or perhaps just quite overcooked. The real problem was that when we tried to pay our bill, it took 20 minutes from the time they took the card until they came back to us. Apparently their machine was having a problem, but we had no way of knowing that- they just disappeared leaving us wondering what was going on. When they finally returned, we voiced our concerns and didn't even really get an apology from the server, who explained the machine's malfunction to us. I thought it was very poor customer service to make us wait so long with no explanation until the end, no apology, and not even a small compensation like taking off the price of our drinks or something along those lines. I don't think I'll be back.

Excellent Brunch, Great Service – Three of us had the pleasure of a Sunday Brunch on the last week of Siciliy. We had the Lobster Scramble special, Mango pancakes, Gingerbread Waffles, and more. Everything was fantastic. Service was great. Seating took about 15 mins. Grab a quick coffee next door while you wait. We will definately be going back.

Very small portions for a lot of money. Service was condesending – The service was nothing like their other establishments, it was rude,

condescending and short. But still, we understand that some nights are

better than others and it could have been a bad night for our server.

The food is the main issue here. We ordered the ceviche and the

split the two-person meal that included Pork, Marlin, Corn, Jasmine rice,

Black beans and a tuna salad. The Ceviche was fantastic, well portioned

and all around good.

The main issue we had was with the two-person meal we ate. The serving

was so small, I thought we accidentally got a 1 person serving. Our marlin

steak was roughly one bite each. The tuna salad was so incredibly

over-cooked, it was inedible. The pork was good, but again, such a small

portion that we barely got any. The meal focused around the beans and rice,

which were obliviously there for filler.

We left the Coastal Kitchen, very hungry and 80.00 poorer. Our next stop

was to go get something to eat.

An ambitious mishmash that stays true to its name, tracing the cuisine of diverse, ocean-bordering regions. – The Scene
Restaurateurs Peter Levy and Jeremy Hardy successfully pack 'em in at their neighborhood places; Coastal Kitchen is no exception. Dressed-up worker bees, funky artisans, cool young professionals--all of Capitol Hill's diverse population is well-represented here.

The Food
The regular fish-oriented menu is supplemented by a separate theme menu, which changes quarterly and draws inspiration from different coastal regions. Be it Brazil, Normandy, Indonesia or Greece, the idea is consistently well-executed. The regular 'blunch' fare includes a wide assortment of omelettes and scrambles, including one made with smoked salmon and cream cheese; regular BLT and hamburger diner fare; and dinner entrees like pecan-encrusted catch of the day, herb-roasted chicken and grilled flatiron steak with a red wine demiglace.

all packaging – this is the second time that I have gone to coastal kitchen, and left disappointed by the food quality. i get sucked in by the hype and ambience, but always leave feeling like something is missing. maybe the owners need to spend less time hyping all of their restaurants and more time on delivering a quality product. i ordered the chipolte shrimp salad, which sounded great on the menu. what came to me was five small over-glazed shrimp, mixed greens doused in a very sour dressing, a scoop of canned corn, and two tostada shells stuck in for good measure. i ordered salsa for the shells and even that was tasteless. i snuck a few french fries off a friend?s plate, which were good, as was the service. but still I left there fuming about paying $14+ for such an unfulfilling lunch.

Best Bloody Mary in Town – Consistently great food, good local art, informed but not obnoxious service and unimprovable Bloody Maries...totally worth the wait!

User review by goosezilla – Everything I've had here has been very tasty. The only drawback is sometimes you have to wait quite awhile because it is very popular. :)

superb breakfast and brunch – I have been here many times, and have never been disappointed. My parents, who live out of town, absolutely love this place when they come to visit. I highly recommend it for breakfast or brunch. The selections are always unique and served in generous portions. There is something for everyone, regardless of taste - from the traditional to the exotic. All around helpful and attentive wait staff. The only downside is the long wait if you come for a breakfast/brunch on a weekend morning.

My Favorite Brunch Spot – I love this restaurant, particularly for brunch. The servings are huge and the creations are daring and full of flavor. Additionally the place has a very down home feel and is friendly to kids, giving it a sort of young hip familial atmosphere. And the wait staff are super accommodating (even to a Mom, like me, with a squirmy 1 year old).

The menu changes every three months (not the entire menu, just featured items) to present a cuisine from a different coastal city. Along with the menu change, the decor changes.

Creative, warm and fun. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's become one of my favorite weekend haunts.

What A Great Place! – Went there on a recommendation from a friend and couldn't have been happier. Their 3 for $20 is an amazing deal. It wouldn't be a bargain if the food wasn't good, but it was. The service was prompt, knowlegeable and friendly. Can't wait to go back and try the new menu this season!
