The two best massage therapists I've ever had are the two massage therapists at Kate's Day Spa. Kate (the owner) and Heather both give phenomenal massages, are pleasant and easy-to-talk to, intuitive. Although I am not a super-frequent customer (I wish I could afford to go all the time!), they both remember the type of massage I like, and that I don't like pressure on my lower back. They are so wonderful. The setting itself feels like a hug. It's an oasis. It's not glossy or fancy as some spas I've been to (which can be fun, too). Rather, it is cozy and pleasant and safe-feeling. And really, massages do not get better than this.
Like walking into a comfort and relaxation bubble – I have been going to Kate's Day Spa for over 15 years. Kate is a hands-on owner; she cares deeply about her work and every person who comes in the door. You walkk in from the sidewalk through an outdoor hall, into a small courtyard, and into the spa. Because it is secluded, only the door from the courtyard is unlocked if staff are with customers, but there is a lovely waiting area.
Kate decorates her business with things she lov es: wonderful vintage furniture, beautiful art, and hand-painted canvas rugs. Each room is different in color and decor.
Tables have heated mats on the bottom and extremely cuddly blankets on top. Each masseuse has their own music selection and they will certainly let you bring the music you want to hear.
I always feel like I am with a friend, not a servant. Kate knows what I love so well I almost do not have to tell her what I want. Heather, too, anticipates what will make me feel awesome.
And, yes, Kate's little Jack Russell may be on-site, but she let's me bring my dog into the treatment room so she does not have to sit out tied up on the sidewalk. That is what I love about Kate's Day Spa.
We now live almost 80 miles away from Kate's, but it is the only place I go for a massage.
Healing Oasis – I don't know where the negative reviewer, went but it was not here. Maybe that person needs to go back to LA. because Kates Day Spa is quintecencially Seattle, owned and operated by a local homegrown seattlite. The spa is quiet and quaint, a nice dip away from city life, comfortable like a best friend's house. I recommend steaming before your massage, and the massages are heaven, you can really tell that she is a veteran and a professional, I feel like my spirit and my body were tenderly taken care of and healing took place. I go for pain management and it works great, she also counseled me on posture and other pain management techniques. A wholistic and caring approach to massage. Yumm!!!
Best massage ever! – The atmosphere at this spa was relaxing and very inviting. Antiques draped with lace, low lights, candles, incense, and unfamiliar, but relaxing, music played in the background. The little dog that stayed in a corner of the entrance way was friendly and did not jump on me. I was told that I could bring my miniature yorkshire next time if it was well behaved and would stay in my room quietly. I hate to leave her in the car and she goes everywhere with me. The spa was clean and did not spell of animals. I really appreciated the user-friendly attitude of the owner. Very accomodating.
The massage was less expensive than I normally find and the owner, Kate , was unrushed in giving me a very thorough swedish and deep-tissue massage. I also took a private steambath in a lovely large steamroom. The steam is available without a massage. Shower is taken in the steamroom.
I bought 2 gift certificates -- one for a friend who receives treatment for medical reasons (Kate's Spa accepts medical insurance I was told) and one was a package that included massage, steam, and salt-rub.
I will be returning when the next special is offered.
Totally Unprofessional! – I do not recommend this spa. It was clearly a waste of my money. I went there for my birthday, took the day off, etc. The lady that opened the door was holding a small dog and for a minute I thought I was at the wrong place; the door was locked, so I had to wait until somebody would come and find me at this very rustic "reception". On top of the dog, the woman was not dressed professionally, like with spa-apron, or something like that. She had stay-home clothes, and had a weird gaze, like on "medication".
I almost left, but didn't. This lady did my face massage, which it was below average, and also a body massage which was bad. The salt glow rub was ridiculous: super fast, she barely scubbed the salt on me, and it was like $80. The facility looked like somebody's house and also didn't look professional, with everything amateurishly arranged. Every time she would get out of the room to anything she would be with the dog! Definetely not what I was thinking! They should close their doors.
A homey neighborhood spa steams things up.
– The Scene
Don't expect fancy spa surroundings: Kate's looks more like a friend converted her living space into a spa with lavender walls, Victorian antiques and a few garage sale furnishings. But don't let the absence of glitz stop you from trying one of the treatments at the hands of capable and friendly aestheticians--and sweating in one of the few steam baths in town.
Try a deep-tissue massage from Shawna. The Honey Body Glow may make you feel like a human granola bar--when a mixture of honey, oatmeal, sesame and sunflower seeds is smeared all over your body--but the result is satiny, soft skin.
Less than some of the upscale spas. An hour massage is $70, the steam bath for one is $20 and a spa package that includes facial, massage, salt glow and a light lunch is $200.
Steamed Away Stress! – I recieved a special "Zing" Treatment for mother's day from my hubby. Tucked away in this corner off Madison is a real gem. I recieved a Grand Facial, a one hour massage from Kate, the owner, and an incredible "Ultimate Foor Treatment," where I even got a Masque for my FEET!! Wow! I would come back. After the steam and massage I already felt like butter, and by the end I was in heaven! My husband is such a good boy! :-)
