SIMPLY AWFUL IN EVERY WAY. – I've ordered a number of times from Yen Wor - not because they serve good food (far from it), but because they're the only Chinese delivery I'm aware of in my area of West Seattle. I have now waited for two hours to get the sweet and sour sauce for the pork we ordered. I'm giving up after talking with them twice over the phone. I should have gone to Safeway and saved myself $30 - the food is of the same quality, anyway.
Oh well! – Long time Chinese in Admiral district. It exists because of the bar (cocktail license) and takeout. Not good. Except for the bar the place seems deserted most of the time. Very pedestrian Chinese.
we love it! – I love this place! It is definitely a dive AND a hole in the wall, but its a very fun place to go. We only started going there this year and we always bring a group. We usually come after work and have gotten food there every time we have visited. I've only had Broccoli and beef and the fried rice, mmmm! Not one of us has gotten sick, so I wouldn't be scared ;0) So I have to disagree with the others about the food, but I don't know what they have ordered :) The karaoke is hilarious, and depending on how intoxicated the singer is, it is very entertaining! Anyway ill stop now, the place is great, the bartender (David I think) is wonderful and this is a great place to have a drink, play some pool, listen to the juke box, or join in the nightly karaoke!
My favorite place – I'm a regular. Like waaay too regular!
I don't eat here. I don't think it will hurt you. But it is very "americanized" chinese food; and I'm not into corn starch or dry BBQ pork. HOWEVER, the "pagoda room" is great! (IE the bar) The karaoke host is still entertaining even after coming here for a year. Call him the "sound guy". He likes that. ;-) If it is a female karaoke host you are in for some very talented singing. Her rendition of Arethra Franklin is a trifle better then this middle age white dude can muster. Sadly I try anyway... Hopefully for you, not on the night you show up.
The crowd is very diverse. Early you have an older set, all hitting on the extremely attractive bartender. Karaoke starts at 9 and depending on the day you will get country, rock, hip hop, or Sinatra. (Sorry guys, but it IS better then my R-E-S-P-E-C-T)
Don't expect posh. This is a dive, but it is a homey kind of a dive. And I've made good friends here...
Bad Food, Fun Bar – I've had the food and have nothing good to say about it. It's terrible. And will most likely make you sick. Please listen to this review and the others that give this advice. Really really really really bad food.
The bar is fun. If you go with friends to get tipsy and sing karaoke, it can be a blast. Sometimes it is overly crowded. The cocktail waitress and the bartender don't tend to communicate real well, so you tab can get all messed up, but that's the only hang up in the bar. The lady that does the karaoke is really talented, nice and funny as a Host. It's a dive bar, so don't expect class or elegance.
I would avoid – Definately not up there on my list of good restaurants. Ordered delivery and they were timely and their Hot and Sour Soup was good. That's where it ends. I had eggrolls and the Honey Walnut Chicken. The eggrolls were mediocre at best and the Honey Walnut Chicken looked to have what tasted like honey infused mayonaise on the chicken... as in white globs of whatever it was on the chicken. The chicken was ok, but I've had much better.
2 Hour Wait for Mediocre Food!! – I can only say that we will NEVER eat at this restaurant again. Our food took 2 hours to be delivered after being quoted 40-60 minutes. When we called to check the status after a little more than an hour we were told it was coming. The second time we called to complain after an hour and half we asked for a discount and were told no and that our food was coming. At two hours we called again and the manager was curt, and said she would check her caller ID to verify whether or not we were telling the truth. She called back 15 minutes later, was rude and argumentative and told us we had only place our order an hour before. The food was fair, but it is obvious this restaurant does not know anything about customer service. Beware.
Editorial Review – This West Seattle standby for Chinese takeout and delivery offers the usual Chinese-American suspects: General Tso's chicken, mu shu, more.
Long time Favoriate – Yen WOR Village serves consistantly good Classic Chinese food. The restaraunt is good for families. The bar serves stong drinks and has that old bar atmosphere. But the staff has been there forever, and is always friendly.
