After living in Atlanta (the heart of the South), Johannesburg (a country that just ended apartheid in the early 1990s), and Washington, DC (a place where politics rule the social scene), I was appalled at how I was treated at R Place. Until 1:30 AM I was enjoying myself, when my friend went to the bar to get a drink, at that time, he was accosted by an individual that was clearly drunk, when my friend tried to calm the situation down, we were immediately surrounded by R place security. Before I knew it, my friend was grabbed by the neck and was escorted out of the bar. In an attempt to find out what was happening, I approach security to ask clarifying questions...before I knew it, I was also being escorted out of the club. When I asked why was my friend and I being escorted out, I was not provided with an answer. My ultimate assumption was that I was being escorted out because my friend and I were BLACK. Security never asked what the problem was, if any, they just grabbed my friend by the neck and drug him out of the establishment. When I tried to find out what is wrong, I was not given an answer. When I asked why I was getting dragged out of the club as well, I was told that I was cursing, treating them aggressively, and being insubordinate. As I type this, just minutes after the event occurred, I promise that I never said one swear, I was never aggressive, and I was only trying to figure out what was going on, if anything. My only assumption, my friend and I were being treated as less than because we were BLACK. One security guard said I called him a racist, I guarantee that the word racist never came out my mouth. I do believe that he felt as he if was being racist. My friend and I were not in the wrong, we were just trying to find out what was going on. After they escorted us out of the club, they then tried to hold our coats, that we paid to check, making us sign a form to retrieve our things, after we had given them our coat check ticket. I have always thought that the state of Washington was a liberal and accepting state. After the experience I had at R Place, I am not so sure. I wish I could say that my time at R Place was fun, unfortunately, due to some really simple minded individuals, that was not the case. I charge, anyone who is reading this review, do not patronize R Place with your business, until that remedy the deep seeded prejudice that is present in its current operation. Not only was my friend and I disrespected, the actions taken by security and R Place was completed uncalled for. Please do not give your hard earned money to a place that does not respect individuals. I cannot believe this has happen in a place as accepting and open as Seattle, WA. Shame on you, R Place.

Rplace - Worst Gay Bar in Seattle :-(‎ – If you like being insulted by bartenders and security alike this IS the place to be! The staff are mostly minumum-wage losers from the local area. And sadly get their kicks insulting paying customers who try to come and have a good time.

If you make the mistake of going to TheirPlace you may enjoy a few visits before they single you out for humiliation in front of all your friends. But an employee will shit on your parade and you will feel like I do eventually.

Just trying to warn Seattle ppl before they waste their $ on this shit-hole :)

it is definately not what it used to be – Back in the day this place was friendly and had the great atmosphere of a diverse crowd. I loved the different levels that catered to how u might feel that night. Now i have no idea what happened the staff are rude and racist. I overheard them call someone a gook. The police are always there and the staff talk to people with disdain. The drinks are getting weaker and more expensive. I can no longer say this place is great, i dont like house music but neighbours is a way better place. Stay away from R-Place they need to shut the place down asap. They make a bad name for the seattle gay scene and the place is RACIST. I never understood how a gay person could be racist but.......Terrible place the worst..save your money

Is it a gay bar, or a straight (girl) bar? – Great place to go, for a gay guy, if you like being surrounded by giggly, bubbly, young straight women (who can't hold thier liquor) and being accused of grabbing thier asses.

It's a whole new bar-genre! But maybe, not a gay bar anymore?

Not the best club/bar in town – Drinks are expensive, I spent more than a $100 on a couple of drinks. The crowd and the security were totally abusive and there wasn't a lot of people there even though it was a saturday. I don't recommend it.

Rude security! – R place was my favorite place after Neighbors but until when I went there with my friends for the third or fourth time and got humiliated by the security, it is no longer our weekend destination. They shoved us down the stairs and out the door in the middle of the night for no apparent reason! We only had a drink since we came in so it wasn't because we were intoxicated or anything. We talked to the management and they were as rude as the security and told us it was a "private place" and they can do whatever they please!! I wont pay a cover charge to get humiliated, its not worth it. Its never as crowded as it was a few months ago anymore!! Go to Neighbors or The Cuff for the best crowd.

The security wasn't as violent until the management was changed about a few months ago. I saw the quality of the atmosphere decline as the management got more violent with their customers. However i heard this place is closing due to number of complaints about this place!

VIOLENT! – I've heard a lot of good things about R place so I went to check it out. While I was there, I witnessed 2 fights on the same night!!! The security was very demeaning, they shoved me and my friends out the door even though it was when after everything calmed down. They started yelling profanity at us. We talked to the manager about the incident and he told us he didn't care!! So we got our stuff together AND WENT TO NEIGHBORS!! there are a lot of other clubs to go to besides this one. The Cuff, Eagle, and Purr are my favorite!! Have fun!!

Popular... Why? – I'd like to start off by saying that I've been living in the Castro area in San Francisco for about seven years now, worked at the The End Up, Badlands.... these are really great gay clubs in SF, last weekend I came by my self to Seattle and decided to visit this place, as soon as I was on the third floor I was a little confused by the three floors, how was the first one different from the second one..? and let me get right into my MAIN complaint about this place.... THE MUSIC.... seems like somebody thinks this is a club for straigtht ppl where girls are grinding the guys as if there was no tomorrow.... isn't obvious what music it should be playing... and there might be some of you that think that the music is fine...OK, well why not have a theme for this kind of music for another day, a thursday ? but not weekends, I think most ppl are better dancers when it comes to dance music, its just more natural and gracefull than trying to dance to hip hop... yucks!

drinks were fine, nothing out of the ordinary.... I wouldn't come back here ever.....

Gay Jock – R Place?? Please, everyone knows the best gay sports bar in town is the Madison Pub. Going to watch a game at R Place is like watching a game at a sleep study.
