An oasis of good service – I knew enough about my bike to know I have a specialty bike which needed a repair that not every shop could (or would want to) handle. Though the repair was difficult (time is $$$), Aaron and his mechanic quickly assessed the challenge, we agreed on a price and the order was entered and invoiced efficiently. The work was completed more quickly than I expected, and the final bill was not more than the maximum we agreed to. I'm sure he didn't make "scale" on it, but I think he truly loves bikes and making people happy. I am testament to that. I'm sure he does not stay in business with customers like me, but I know I will think of him first for my other bike repairs, and I don't mind telling someone else who wants to find a really good bike shop to become attached to.

Avoid – Dropped by Aaron's to get a few things the other day and when I went to pay for them their card reader wouldn't read my card. Granted, it's an old card (since replaced) and I've had problems getting the thing scanned before. Anyways, I had another guy helping me out when Aaron noticed the trouble with my card, at which point he basically interrupted his conversation with another customer to come over and "help out." Basically, he slapped some scotch tape on the back of my card and tried it a few times, still no luck. At that point he told me I'd have to "pay an extra 3 bucks to cover the transaction cost" of entering the card number manually. Yeah, I'm actually serious. I told him no dice and to run the card a few more times. The card worked a few swipes later, and I promptly left that shop never to return again.

I'll give Aaron credit for having good taste in beer (Paulaner appears to be the beverage of choice there), but his customer service skills are unfortunately non-existent.

Extremely Rude Service, High Prices, Not Worth the Time – My few visits to Aarons Bike Shop have resulted in large charges for meager work and rude customer service. All my interactions with the shop owner Aaron have been extremely disappointing. Hes attitude and communication style is rude, condescending, and combative. Although I may not be a professional mechanic, I have been successfully working on my own bikes for 2 years, Aaron proceeded to lecture me on how I should never work on my own bike and leave it to the "professionals". We need more cycling advocates in the cycling community, not those simply seeking to make a profit. There are many other shops that offer the same knowledge, plus great service - keep looking!

The Grinch Who Stole Bicycles – All I can say is steer clear of this awful shop. The owner is rude beyond belief and needs a class (well actually a whole semester worth of classes) in customer service.

I've worked retail and I've worked in a bike shop; it's amazing that this shop is still in business with the way I was treated and someone who went in to get his bike fixed whle I was standing there was "abused" by the owner. I heard sexist remarks by the owner while I was browsing and alcohol consumption seemed to be the favored topic in my ten minute stay. I'm not a prude, I just think there's a time a place for everything...and a bike shop with customers in it is not the place.

I've been to many bike shops in Seattle and I will recommend those on this site.

Not worth the attitude or money. – Before I get into my review, let me lay out my creds. I was a bike mechanic for four years a few years ago so I know my way around a bike, and know when a bike isn't serviced correctly. I brought my new Jamis XLT in to be overhauled prior to the summer riding season. I didn't have much experience with the newer technology, and I hoped a "pro" shop would give a trouble free summer. $220 and 8 miles later the trouble started. First the rear der. pully fell off on the trail. Luckily I found enough of it to get back to the car. Once there I saw the disc brake cable had cut into my fork and frame due to improper routing. I brought it back in, got attitude from the staff, something like "well, thats the only way to route the cable". I have seen MANY bikes with my fork and I have never seen that happen. They refused to replace the frayed cable, I honestly wanted to just get out of there before I started yelling. I tried to give them another chance, just more attitude, and two left bar ends (they repackage items in their own bags for some reason). I wouldnt have written this, but I just had to pull my bottom bracket, the seal they removed as part of their overhaul has a cut from a incorrect re-install. Another 30 bucks down the drain. In conclusion, unless you know exactly what you want, you check twice to make sure its the right part, and like being treated poorly, go somewhere else. Recycled Cycles kicks *ss, and Bikes and Brew in West Seattle has a great service guy. Hell, REI has more knowledge, better prices, and service with a smile. Thanks for reading.
