Tips for Tony Roma's

January 16, 2008

Baby back ribs served with signature barbecue sauces are the hallmarks of this popular national chain.. In Short
This award-winning restaurant chain is known primarily for its baby back ribs, but through the 30-plus years since its flagship location opened in North Miami, the family-friendly menu has expanded to include barbequed chicken, char-grilled steaks, burgers, pasta, seafood and salads. All ribs are served with one of the accompanying sauces (Original, Carolina Honeys, Blue Ridge Smokies, Red Hots, or Honey-Chipotle), and two sides like coleslaw, fries, or a baked potato.

Whimpy ribs. I used to like Tony Roma's. Then, after not going there for awhile I tried it again. The sauces were good, but tame for me. What really bothered me, though, was what I have come to consider the few, whimpy little ribs I get. I do a mean rib, and a bunch of them at a time at home though, and maybe I've just moved on. At any rate, Tony Roma's just don't interest me any more. But, that's just one opinion.

down hill. We used to love Tony Romas until the last time we ate there. The prices had gone up and the quantities had shrank. I also felt the quality of food had diminished as well. Very disappointing. This was at the Lynwood restauraunt.

Doesn't get any better than this!. Tony Roma's has a delicious selection of ribs, chicken, and steak that comes covered in their great bbq sauce. The baby back ribs are nice and tender and the sauce makes you want to suck the bone. IMHO, Tony Roma's has got it going on!

barbecueman. Tony Roma's ribs were baked not barbecued anybody who knows barbecue can pick that right out. their sauce had liquid smoke in it thats the only thing that even suggested barbecue the ribs were dry and overcooked I cannot possibly agree with their rating at #2 there ribs were baked and grilled. not true barbecue

Okay place, but.... too assembly line. Their sauces are pretty good, but I have had better; they can be too sweet, not hot/flavourful enough- they impress me as being thick and syrupy; catered for the masses. They are a chain so the craft isn't there as it is with smaller places. Good if you have a hankering for BBQ, but if you're looking for knock down BBQ that is made out of love of BBQ, then go to Dixies, the Armadillo BBQ or 3 Pigs.

The Great Pretender. This place wants to be a Kansas City rib joint...or an upscale Texas Smokehouse...or the poor man's Ruth's Chris. Problem is, it's None Of The Above. This is the most generic, Chuckie Cheese-ish, corporate-restaurant, lowest-common-denominator stuff money can buy; the perfect example of what happens when Americans try to standardize anything. Nothing offensive at all about the food but absolutely nothing distinguished. Bland sauces, predictable sides, unimaginative presentations - this is BBQ for six-and-under and your maiden Aunt from Shaker Heights. Faux-funkiness is maybe the worst sort of pretension and Tony positively drips with it.

Only for the unitiated.. Are you kidding? Anyone who thinks this place is has never had real barbaque. Tony Romas is the McDonalds of Ribs. Yes technically they serve ribs but they aren't good.

Farty, gristle on a bone. The sause is ok. The waitstaff is asleep at the wheel or more interested in each other's social life than the patrons.

To be fair I have visited TR more than once and more than one location. The only thing consistant was the poor food and service.

I would only eat here if forced.
