Born-Again Miyabi! – As of Jan 2010, this a new restaurant, under new management. I had pleasant experiences at the old Miyabi, as it was better than average and unlike most restaurants in this area selling Japanese food they spoke Japanese, not Korean or Chinese! But this is now my favorite Japanese restaurant - I haven't eaten better, fresher sushi anywhere, except at home!
The help is very good and they all speak both Japanese and English! The prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is good, helped by live music several days a week. Most of the customers seem to know and appreciate good Japanese food.
There's a place for "birthday restaurants" like Red Robin, but thank God for an authentic ethnic restaurant to show people what food crazes (like sushi) are supposed to taste like! And they even serve American sushi (California rolls)!
Was a Favorite - Now Disgusted! – This was our favorite Japanese restaurant until the last experience in August 09. It appeared that the food was fried in hair. No, not one piece of hair was found, but it looked like someone had cut their hair and fried it with the Tonkatsu. When we told the waiter, he apologized without being surprise as if it had happened before. We stopped eating immediately from being so disgusted. We were not charged for the food with the hair but were charged for dinner although we didn't eat any more after seeing the hairs on the tonkatsu.
Not sure what is going on at that restaurant but it felt like it was intentional.
Sad and disgusted.
not what you would expect – We have been looking for a good japanese place in South Center for a long time and this place just filled the spot. You wouldn't expect a strip mall sushi restaurant to be so good. The bento dinner was delicious and a good price. We will be back.
the average japanese restaurant – I first had to to be seated at this restaurant and there was no where to sit or stand. After 10 minutes, I then sat down and ordered. After waiting 5 minutes I finally got my miso soup and water which I first then thought they had good service. However, waiting 15 minutes, I finally got my sushi. The sushi was all right and greater than most of the other japeanese restaurants i've been to. I then waited 25 minutes then for my entree. Bad service but okay food.
This place is the greatest! – The sushi chefs are so friendly and fantastic, so sit at the sushi bar if you can. Great all around service, and the seafood is very fresh. I will definitely go back there again, and again, and again. I am definitely a sushi snob, and this is one of the best sushi experiences I have had, ever!!
One of my FAVORITE japanese restaurants! – Miyabi is definitely one of my favorite japanese restaurants! It's pretty hard to believe that such a great place is tucked in southcenter parkway (it's beside toys r us and half priced books). The service has always been excellent and friendly. The staff seems to be all japanese (all super friendly with smiles everytime i dine there). The interior design plus the japanese welcome greeting and farewell delivered genuinely by the staff, made me feel like i just dined in Japan. FOOD is delicious! My favorite dish is their Custom Bento Box (great portion size! w/sushi included, miso soup & more) ; you can pick any 2 of 8 items available, to your liking. (I suggest to never miss the salmon teriyaki, the BEST i've ever tasted!! trust me!) I suggest to go there during lunch time for good lunch prices, $8 for one of the best bento box meals is an awesome deal! Most likely you'll see the place packed with business people on their lunch time. Night time is also packed with people, i noticed mostly japanese diners (which is a good sign of good food!) Their sushi is also mouthwatering, my favorite is the dragon roll and rock n' eel. So far I haven't tried anything here that I don't like. Great ambiance, great service, great food!
It's too good for a restaurant in Takwila!! – As I walked in, I was impressed with the interior. Their bento dinner they have is such a good deal for the portion size. I like that you can choose from any 6 or 8 items to build your own bento. We got "Gozilla Rolls," and they were exceptional! So fresh! Try if you like spicy food. I am Japanese, and I wouldn't say this restaurant is authentic, but it's a good American style Japanese food. I live in Seattle, but I will definitely go back next time I'm going south.
Traditional fare and vegetarian options – This restaurant is in a strip mall just south of Southcenter Mall, but it's worth looking for. They have great sushi, even a large vegetarian selection (try the Inari roll)! The portions are generous and the flavors authentic. The desserts are excellent, and very creative. The restaurant is decorated nicely and the staff are cheerful and attentive. Your dollar goes far here!
Shopping Mall Sushi – Fresh selection of the standard entrees. Ambience lacking. Hard to find location.
Hit (and miss) – I'd say 8 times out of 10 this place hits a homer. The sushi is very fresh, relatively inexpensive, and quickly served. The sushi lunch and dinner combinations offer a decent variety at a decent price. Their hot food can be ordered in small quantities on some items to give you a do-it-yourself lunch.
The wait staff always seem to come accross as if it is their first day on the job. Attentive, but flustered. Not really an issue more than just being mildly funny. It all works out though.
If you get dissapointed when going in- don't worry, they'll be better next time. Never fails for me. 8 great visits for every 2 mediocre ones.
