I've been shopping at this store for a few months. The manager was awesome and everyone loved him. There was a manager of another Kmart store and his store closed so he moved around to other stores "helping out," instead of being laid off. He didn't have a store to manage so one day he was helping out at the Everett store and mysteriously the manager that everyone loved, died at his desk. This death provided a spot for this manager to now have his own store. I went in there yesterday to return a Loreal mascara that was dried out. I had purchased it a few days ago and it was in the original package with the receipt. Maranda at the customer service desk was extremely rude and refused to follow the Kmart policy for returns which was printed on the back of my receipt. When I asked to speak with the new manager, he finally came out after a long wait. He was equally as rude and continue to point up to a policy which stated that the item had to be in it's original package, which it was. Although Maranda had stated they would not return ANY makeup it was not listed on the back of the receipt or on the policy board. When Steve joined the discussion, she lied about what she had told me. When I asked Steve to stop pointing up to a policy which didn't apply and instead talk with a customer who had purchased defective merchandise at his store, he continued to refuse to follow the promise on the back of my receipt. He stated that he did have the authority to provide the appropriate customer service to me as I was not satisfied with a product, but his anger seemed to prevent him from doing so.
This store is always void of customers and now I can see clearly the reason they are going under. The manager of this store has hired new employees who are unprofessional, rude and don't have ANY idea how to provide customer service which will retain shoppers. Based upon my experience with this new manager, I completely understand why no one shops there anymore. Why would anyone shop at a place that doesn't even follow their own printed policies on the back of their receipts?
If you value yourself and your money, you will pass this Kmart by and go to the nearby Fred Meyer, which DOES follow their own return policy. Fred Meyer stands by their products and IS concerned with having satisfied customers.
Kmart Everett store was willing to lose a loyal customer over an eight dollar mascara. Does that sound like good business practice to you?
