I was looking for to special order a new handgun and called SportCo. The guy was nice enough and gave me all the particulars on it. The price was the lowest of three dealers. I gave them my name to be called when the shipment arrived. They would not take a down payment so I was worried that they might not call me. I therefore, at the end of one month called and asked about it. The sales man was rude, crude, unhelpful and made my call short as he could make it, he almost had me holding a dead phone.
Now I don’t know about you, but I regard customer service highly, especially when it’s going to be my money going to them. After that icy phone call, I could not see this guy getting any percentage of my money.
I remembered one dealer that was cordial on the phone and said I could come down and special order the handgun just for me. Now I’m not rich, hell not even wealthy, but I know what I want, when I have money for it. This dealer is asking 35 dollars more, but I don’t care, he will get my business tomorrow morning. I guess if you went by me, the going rate for a cordial and helpful gun salesman must be 35 extra dollars more than the other stores price. Now this makes me feel good and his callous attitude now just flows off my back. Isn’t life wonderful? I can hardly wait for that glorious little NNA .22 mag Sidewinder revolver to arrive.
Might be Better in Person – Let me first say I will NEVER shop with Sportco again.
I was truly excited to find someplace in the NorthWest that I could order products for an upcoming trip that I'm supposed to blog about for work. I placed on order on Sunday knowing that it wouldn't be processed until Monday. To my suprise I received an email the following morning saying that my order had been processed. Utilizing Sportco's online FAQ's and shipping information (which is great but apparently not very accurate) I had been expecting to receive my package by Wednesday at the latest. Wednesday came and went with no package. Having to leave Friday for the trip I started to worry about not having the order. I placed a call the following morning to inquire about my order. The customer service was not what I had expected it to be. They did inform me that my package had yet to have been shipped. They claimed that due to the holidays they had been experiencing an increase in their online sales, but assured me they would ship out the package that day. They did not however try to accomodate me in any way to ensure the package would arrive on time...
Sportco - First I think you need to re-evaluate who you hire to run your customer service dept. considering the main focus of it being "customer service". Secondly if you know that your business fluxuates during the Holidays, place a disclaimer or update your site with expected Holiday shipping times like every other retailer... I will be sure to continue to tell all of my friends, family, peers, and co-workers in the outdoor industry to NEVER do business with Sportco or Outdoor Emporium.
