SO GLAD We Found This Place! – I am a CONFESSED picky diner and Italian food is not usually my first choice UNLESS it's top-notch.
In the past the only time I really looked forward to Italian food would be on our visits to San Diego where we would dine out nightly in one of the wonderful eateries in Little Italy.
Pasta Cucina is one of Vancouver's best kept secrets.
You can easily miss it as it tucked back in a somewhat nondescript strip mall but trust me when I say that you should check it out.
My wife and I finally dined there and here's what we had;
Bruschetta; Cheesy, light and tasty.
Calimari; Delicate flavor and nice crunchy breading.
Spaghetti and meatballs; Fresh made sauce with an earthy rustic flavor and tender healthy sized meatballs which were CLEARLY made from quality ingredients.
Scampi with pasta in a light cream sauce; The scampi was tender and fresh and cooked just right and the sauce was fresh and light.
Even the bread that came with our dinner was wonderful! I'm not certain what the seasoning was but it tasted like an herb combination that may have included a touch of Rosemary. Whatever it was, it was soft, fresh and delicious.
The service was friendly and prompt and the prices were very reasonable (most dinners were right around $9-$12).
It's very clear that this restaurant is run by a family that has a love of traditional Italian food and takes pride in serving first rate meals at fair prices.
We will DEFINITELY be going back soon.
I can't believe all of these positive reviews?!?!?!??? – I am baffled by the positive reviews.
Hands down the worst italian food I have ever consumed. This includes microwave meals and school lunches as a kid.
Worst sauce, worst meatball, worst pasta, terrible seasoning that leaves a bad aftertaste in your mouth.
Enter at your own risk.
Great service, fantastic food! – Pasta Cucina is, without a doubt, my favourite restaurant in Vancouver and I've been five or six times now. The staff is extremely friendly and make you feel right at home. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, although admittedly the decor is a little low-budget; it's obvious this is a family owned affair rather than some mega-million dollar corporation chain restaurant.
Each time I go I order something different, and each time I've been more than pleased. The food is incredible and I have not once been disappointed in any way.. The portions are huge, the quality is outstanding and they have the best marinara I've ever had.
Just tonight I had the special-of-the-day, lasagne with meatballs. The lasagna was rich and hearty, the meatballs flavourful and tender. The beef in the lasagna was portioned just right, as was the ricotta. Too salty? Not in the slightest. I can't help but wonder if the one-star review wasn't for some other restaurant. The only complaint I could imagine someone possibly having with Pasta Cucina is the decorating, but I think it's charming, especially so at night.
If you want fantastic food at a great price, then I highly recommend Pasta Cucina. If you're looking for fu fu fancy chic dining with haute couture decorating from a top designer then you'd best stay away.
The Best Italian Food in the Vancouver area!!! – Outstanding! That would be the one word I would use to rate every category for this delightful restaurant. The servers make you feel like you are an "old friend" and the food is superb! I had the clam linguini -- the BEST I've ever had, bar none. Also, the calamari was Amazing!! Highly recommended!!!!
And, someone commented on the decor -- personally, I love it! It makes you feel like you are in an out door cafe in Italy. Love it!
Excellent Food! – My partner and I have been here twice now, and both times the food and service was great. True, it is in a little strip mall and it is a small place, but I really like the atmosphere inside. Prices are very reasonable too, compared to other italian restaurants. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an excellent italian meal. The Raviolli Fritte appetiser is excellent, and we have had it both times we were there. Also, in reply to the person that said it was the worst place they have ever been at, The first time we went was on a Sunday and they accepted our entertainment card, no questions asked. Plus, the red or marinara sauce which they use on some dishes is not salty at all. Are you sure you ate at this place and are not thinking of someplace else?
Cheap Decor, Tasty Noodles – Being seated right next to the kitchen window where servers yell, "Hey, they just got their salads; I'll tell you when I need the entrees!" back at the cooks has always been a pet peeve of mine. In their defense, it's a small space. The place is in a strip mall. The tablecloths are vinyl. The glasses are plastic - complete with Coca-Cola logos. I thought the walls were cute and Italian-esque in a Lady and the Tramp kinda way... but the grape garlands hanging from the ceiling were a bit much. The food was good... a bit pricey for the location, but good nonetheless. I went here because I had an Entertainment card discount (which, by the way, has since been reduced to 50% off one entree). Given the Entertainment card's track record (3 of the last dozen restaurants we tried lately had closed down before we made it there!), I'd call this outing a success.
Worst Lasagna – This was the worst dining experience and the worst lasagna we ever had. To begin with, we went planning to use our Entertainment book coupon, but they refused it, saying they would not honor it on weekends. They also told another patron the same thing. However, there is no provision for them on the coupon for them not to honor it.
We waited a full 30 minutes for our food, which was lasagna and marsala. The masala was passable, but the lasagna was absolutely the worst either of us had ever eaten. We should have sent it back. It had very salty red sauce, which overpowered everything else. There was very little beef, and no ricotta cheese. Ironically, we had given our kids some frozen lasagna from Costco before we went, and all we could think about was how much better it would have been than this. I don't know how it got all these other good reviews.
The greatest little hole in the wall you could ever imagine... – The first thing I noticed, which immediately made me fall in love with this quaint little diner--long before our food even came --was the environment! It's just lovely! Size wise, like I said, it is quite literally a hole in the wall, but what they've done with the space they do have is amazing! It's sorta hard to explain but it's very cute, makes ya feel all warm and cozy inside! Oh yes, and when you add that wonderfully intoxicating Italian aroma the the great atmosphere, it's ummm ummm good!
The food is fantastic; i go there once a week for a to-go order my favorite roasted garlic fettuccine something or other and be in heaven for several days as their portions are large enough for at least 2 or 3 meals for many people. And their prices are extremely reasonable; everything on the menu is right around $10 but there are many items that are even less, like $7-$8, so... affordable, good sized portions, and very tasty!
I'd much rather eat here than at the Olive Garden!
Loved the food. Great Prices. Is now our primary italian place
WOW ! – Oh my gosh! What a treat. This tiny little restaurant was such a pleasant suprise. The word needs to get out so it can grow! The food was marvelous, the service was excellent, and what they have done with the small space they have is amazing. Very cute, very charming, VERY Italian. Well done...best of luck to them.
