Yuppy SCUM!!!! – They were very snooty. Didn't feel like my money was good enough. Maybe if I pulled up in a $100,000 car dressed like an 80's businessman, I could have gotten some respect out of these people. Horrible, horrible experience. Save your money, go to Great Clips and be respected by normal people.
LOVE LOVE LOVE This Place! – Today was my third visit to 14th and Grand since I moved to Spokane last September and I can't imagine taking my business anywhere else!
I made a spur of the moment appointment because I am sick and tired of this gray and gloomy weather and wanted a completely new look.
The first part of my appointment placed me in Tiffany's care. I explained I wanted a "Spring" look so she helped me select an absolutely beautiful light reddish color with even lighter highlights. (A drastic change from my natural dark brown!)
After my hair was colored, I had my hair cut and beautifully styled by Bree.
All afternoon I have received nothing but glowing compliments! I LOVE my new look (and can't wait for my hubby to see) I'm thrilled with how well these ladies listen to what I want and how enthusiastically they are in helping me achieve the color and style I want.
MADE ME FEEL LIKE GARBAGE – I first began going to this salon when I was 17. I was married at the time, and bored. I'm also a creature of habit. Someone suggested this salon to me, so I went there. I had okay haircuts. I spent a lot of money on products every time I went in; shampoo, conditioner, waxes, sprays, everything they suggested. I went occasionally for over 5 years. I love the Manito Park neighborhood which this salon is close to, I liked how they took my coat & got me coffee & I loved the massage. I didn't have a lot of salon experience to compare this to, so I thought it was pretty good. I never walked out of the salon LOVING my hair, but I thought that was normal. The time before last I got my hair done was the first time I disliked my hair. I put the wrap my hair was in when I came into the salon right back on when the stylist was done. One of the managers I presume came down from upstairs, looked at my hair, and critiqued the nice lady that had done a bad job at cutting it. The lady then fixed it, and I was happy with my hair. It was awkward standing there in a place that is supposed to be professional while a stylist gets reprimanded. I was thankful though for the lady in charge, because at least I walked out of there with my hair looking good. I got a dramatic A-line cut. Whenever I'd get my hair done there the girls would say they had fun when I came in because they got to do something different for a change. Cookie-cutter hairstyles don't fit my personality. This salon, never fit my personality actually, but I guess I'm just a masochist.
The last time I came in I was looking to get some fire-engine red streaks put in my black hair. The artist was confused because never before had she done a color like I was asking for. She had to consult with someone higher up. She brought someone over who I remembered to be the head of the color area. This lady actually told me, that "people like you" don't normally come in there, so blah, blah, blah, they don't have the colors that I want readily available. She told me that "NEXT TIME JUST GET SOME PUNKY COLORS & DO IT YOURSELF." I'll never forget that! I was flabbergasted. I am not a confrontational person. I am actually quite a shy person, not very sociable, and I had no clue what to say to this lady. I had been going there for YEARS, spending countless amounts of money on cuts, colors & products, and this is how I was treated. The girl doing my hair did a fine job, she was nice, but I couldn't ever go back there again after that. And THAT, was exactly that monsters point I presume. Maybe her boss told her to do it. Who knows.
I want to add that besides this incident I've never had a stylist there who was deliberately rude to me. The receptionists normally weren't personable, to the point of being rude or perhaps even snotty, but never until then had the stylists been.
The prices are high, the atmosphere & music I find obnoxious, and if you don't have a lot of money you might feel like a jack-hole because they try to sell you their products every time you come in. They made it sound as though the products I was already using at home were horrid, and I just had to get their products in order for my hair to be beautiful. I, unfortunately, believed them.
I now believe that salon is no good, and I'd like to encourage anyone who is going there but isn't quite happy, to get out! I am grateful to be free of that place, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Fantastic Experience! – When I moved back to Spokane after living in Portland, OR for 13 years, one of the things I struggled with most was trying to find a good salon and stylist to cut and color my hair. After little to no success, for about 6 months, I actually went back down to Portland to my old salon. That all stopped when I went to 14th & Grand.
I have to say, I was completely delighted to find a "big city" type salon in our not so big city of Spokane! I have been going faithfully for the last 2 years and could not be happier with the consistently excellent quality I have always received. Colorist Alisha is amazing and Amy who cuts my hair is fantastic. Because my hair is long and very curly it is no small thing to actually be able to manage it.
As for the rest of the staff, I have always found them to be extremely helpful and professional. After my services yesterday, I was delighted to find that the gals at the front desk had already pulled the products and shampoos I wanted (because I had mentioned it to my 2 stylists) and had them waiting for me at the desk. Thanks ladies!!!
I know they stand behind their services 100% and I love knowing that if for some reason I wanted something changed, I could easily pick up the phone and I would be scheduled immediately and it would be done - no questions asked.
14th & Grand has done a great job of staying current with new trends and techniques - and has done an even better job of keeping my hair highlighted and cut to perfection.
I don't go anywhere else – I have been going to them for over 10 years, they treat me like family. Friendly, Fun and Professionalall at the same time. They have saved me from many a bad hair mistake that I have tried to make. They know my hair well. I love that they pay attention to what will work for me and what won't. In an emergency they make room for me even if someone has to stay late. The owners well I love them too, they always say hi if they see me there. I send lots of people to them and have never had anyone complain, they always go back. Thank You 14th and Grand! Best Salon in town!
Terrible Establishment – First off! They have hair educators that critique the hair designers work. Totally unprofessional in my opnion if you are treating your so called employees like students then run a school not a salon. They do not allow tips for their employees, they try to justify it by saying they pay more an hour on average then other salons. WOW 14.00 an hour. They have percentage rules about what an employees can wear I.E. an employee can wear 30% black and 20 % another color , who the hell does this? I went there as a favor to one of my friends and was doing 14th the favor of being there for an updo evening and they were so rude to me telling me my color was awful . If they were maybe trying to get to switch to them they blew it. i told my friend i do not know how stand to work there. If you are looking for a great Salon go to Salon Retro in the Valley. The won Zbest award! Awesome place, they also do not sell hair product that smells like dog shampoo!
Thank you for your comment. I am sorry that your friend was confused about the salon she was working for. 14th and Grand has been a no tipping salon for 15 years. This has never been a secret. You no longer have to watch stylists compete with each other, or treat you different because of your financial situation. True we do pay our stylists hourly, for every hour you are at work you are being PAID! Even if you only have a few clients or even a no-show. As stated on our web-site and in our interviews:
"We have always believed in a salon culture that offers team members the advanced education needed for professional growth and the positive environment needed for personal growth, therefore our stylists focus on either haircutting or hair coloring. Our specialized departments work together in an energetic, creative atmosphere to provide clients with personalized results and exceptional service"....see below
Would trust my hair to no one else!!!! – I've been going to 14th & Grand Salon since the early 90s. They have seen me through every style imaginable and continue to make my hair current yet age appropriate. I have my favorite stylists and colorists but am never disappointed when trying someone new. I love it there and would never go anywhere else!! I am confused as to where the people complaining are going.
The owner should be embarrassed!!!! – Lets just say I'm beyond disappointed with what the owner lets go on in this salon. I’ve been a customer for years and I've had enough. It time for a new salon, a salon that doesn’t leave the customer with an unwelcoming feeling!
The front desk girls working if you can call what they do working…? Are incompetent, rude, snotty and think the whole world revolves around them making customers wait well the finish there conversations. If you get an appointment and the front desk girls manage to schedule you on the right day and you make it passed the check in: the salon has a few talented hairdressers. But the bad news is you are still not done dealing with the front desk staff, you still get the not so lovely experience to pay for your hair cut with these not very bright individuals!
This customer was leaving town and her appointment was mistakenly booked on the wrong day. We felt terrible about the miscommunication and have vigorously re-trained our desk employees. She did receive a complimentary hair service from us, and we are happy to say that she still continues to use 14th and Grand Salon. She has even referred her mom!
Best Salon In Spokane – The girls at the front desk were really friendly, they took my jacket and offered coffee and let me know where the robes were since I hadn't been there before. The people who do color specialize in it and did a great job. My hair turned out exactly like I asked. The person who did my cut listened to what I wanted and gave me just that. The people at the front desk helped me find the products that were recommended for my hair and also suggested a few for what I was looking for how I style my hair. I will keep coming here for years to come!
disappointing, unprofessional – I am so disappointed with my experiences at 14th & Grand Salon. While the girl who cuts my hair (Kaila) is amazing, kind and talented, the rest of the salon, from the stylists, colorists and front desk personnel, are astonishingly rude, snobby (and having been a client at some of the top salons on the West Coast - the 'best' in the industry know service, and they know finesse is half of their business. Snooty attitudes are reserved for a small town salon trying to be big.. such as 14&G), unprofessional and lack talent. My colorists on both occasions were unable to produce the results I specifically explained I wanted; both with photos and appropriate terminology. I know hair. I know the industry very well. 14th & Grand DOES NOT know hair. I have requested their instructors (most "experienced") for my color work, and was told that the sheeting color process was "dated" by an overweight 40-50 something with fire engine red hair and gray roots making her look like she was balding. Very knowledgeable indeed. Instead she gave me the traditional streaky highlight/lowlights. Quite cutting edge my friend. The price wasn't a concern for me, being in the industry, whether it be $65 or $315, but regardless of price, I expect professionalism and the ability to meet client needs - at the least - for what I pay. I will never, ever go back. Dept Z here I come!
