Garlic bread and BBQ sauce to die for – I love the Hi-Life! I always order chicken dishes, which are delicious. The chicken is always moist and comes in large portions. Accompanied by the wonderful never-ending garlic bread and BBQ sauce, I usually walk out of there ready for a nap!!

Not so good steaks – I went here for lunch and had a New York Steak, but it wasn't so tasty. I though it was kind of flavorless. The bread and potato were ok. My coworker ate with me as well and he had the ribs. He said it was only ok.

Disappointing Steaks – Henry's was recommended by co-workers for the best steaks in San Jose. We knew to expect low ambience, but we were also disappointed by the food. The steaks were tough (overcooked) and not very flavorful. Maybe the BBQ ribs are better? The garlic bread and baked potato were good, salad ok, and mushrooms not worth the price. The waitress was overly-efficient, like asking the same thing too many times and clearing dishes before finished, which became annoying. I can see how some might enjoy the "rustic charm" of this restaurant, but I thought the extremely dimly lit atmosphere was an attempt to disguise the dirty walls and hide the quality of the food you are eating.

OK place – The SO and I headed to Henry's as a cure for a bbq jonesin' we were having. The place was exactly what we expected - decent BBQ at a price that wouldn't break the bank. The service was average, the seating was quick (7pm on a Wednesday night...it was looking crowded when we left, though), and the servings were huge (we shared one bbq plate between the both of us and still had leftovers).

A local landmark for good food and hospitality. – The Scene
Located near the building formerly known as San Jose Arena, Henry's does its best business when the Sharks are in town. During football season, the place opens at 8:30am to serve steak and eggs and other gridiron-worthy breakfast plates. Henry's has been around for more than 40 years and it shows no signs of slowing down. Everybody is welcome and everybody seems to love the casual, friendly hangout.

The Food
The barbecued chicken delivers half bird that is still juicy and moist. The boneless teriyaki chicken breast is equally good. The baby back ribs are rightfully popular. Also, try the big beef ribs. For maximum meat with minimum fuss, go with the 24-ounce, thick-as-a-laptop porterhouse or the 12-ounce, USDA-choice New York steak. This is a Budweiser type of place, but those looking for more trendy suds will find them pouring from one of Henry's 15 handles.

Best Ribs! – Their menu is about 7 items, but get the ribs! The ambiance is sorely lacking in 'charm', but that is not what you go there for anyway, its the food.

Now That's The Hi Life Baby – This charming old place is like something straight out of the movies. The crowd is friendly and down-to-earth. The service is a little gruff, but hey that's part of the place's charm.

The food is magnificent. The ribs fall off the bone and the prime rib is probably the best in town. Its only served on Friday and Saturday or when the Sharks are playing a home game. So plan accordingly. And the prices are not bad at all. Give this place a try, you won't regret it.

Henry's Lowlife – I regret to say, that I cannot say a single nice thing about this DIVE. When I arrived, the first thing I saw was the butt cracks of old drunken men who reaked! When I was finally seated for dinner, I received a wilted salad with too much dressing. The martini was too stiff, and somehow, the steak ended up tough and undercooked, the potato was not fully cooked either. THE worst thing- the prices. For the poor quality of the food- the prices were sure high. I could've gone to Outback, or Black Angus! At least there, I would've had a good meal and great service.

Best in SJ – I have taken friends and family to the Hi-Life for 34 years. Best Steak and mushrooms in the area.
