The best spaghetti bolognese on earth! Their chopped salad is amazing too! Salad portions are HUGE!
Chopped Salad (nuff said) – I only get the chopped salad at La Scala, which is the main reason for the 3 stars (hard to comment on the rest, this rating could go up). Plus, La Scala does not make it easy if you have kids and loved their chopped salad.
It is an LA institution, so worth the visit. The crowd ages a bit at night
Decent Italian in a nice neighborhood – About 10 minutes after we ordered, James Woods pulled in and sat down next to us for lunch with his agent. We nodded at him and ne nodded back. This was my kind of place. My penne arrabiata was flavorful and the sauce was good. My iced tea was exceptional. Our waiter kind of forgot about us but hey, I'd forget me too if I was sitting next to a movie star! I can get similar quality Italian at a dozen other places, but I dig the atmosphere and star-watching here.
Good salad, but that's about it. – I went for lunch with some co-workers. It's basically a hole in the wall and parking is nightmare. You HAVE TO valet. It was kind of busy so we sat at the bar to avoid a wait. I had a chopped salad with turkey and it was better than it looked. The tea was great. The service was only OK at best...maybe that's just at the bar. It had to have taken us 20 minutes to get a check and get more bread. But, the salad is worth a try.
A longstanding Beverly Hills eatery that still serves superior Italian fare. – The Scene
The decor, much like the clientele, is stately and refined. Make a reservation and request one of the crescent-shaped, red vinyl booths. Not quite luxurious, but they're far more comfortable than the small tables, which are placed annoyingly close together.
The traditional Italian fare is highly flavorful without being overseasoned. Veal dishes, especially the veal scaloppine sauteed with either lemon-butter sauce or mushrooms and marsalla wine, come highly recommended. Fist-sized, steamed muscles are excellent, served in a broth of garlic, white wine and tomato sauce. Spaghetti al cognac tosses flambeed shallots and basil with chopped jumbo shrimp in a light tomato and cream sauce. The chicken Parmesan--not on the menu but rightfully recommended by the waiter--tops thin, lightly breaded cutlets with a generous mound of melted mozzarella and just enough marinara. Tiramisu is extraordinary--light, airy and served with fresh whipped cream and berries.
Great Lunch time salads – I had a great lunch with my friends. It had ok ambience but a great lunch crowd and the chopped salad was a winner. I will be back for lunch
