Very good pizza, but horrible service and wait staff is rude, offensive and will rip you off.

I went to Filippos on one occasion when there were only a few customers, yet had to wait forever for service. When the waitress finally arrived with the menu, she had an unfriendly and unwelcoming attitude. She immediately asked if we wanted to order drinks at which time we said “Just water” to which she rolled her eyes and responded in a perplexed manner “Just water?”, as if we were too cheap to buy drinks.

About a minute later she returned with our water and asked what we wanted to order, but we had only a minute to look at the menu and had not decided, so we said we needed another minute.

After we decided on our menu choice, we put our menus on the table and sat for about 20 minutes before she came back, yet the restaurant was not busy. Meanwhile, she walked past our table several times seeing that we were not looking at the menus anymore, yet never stopped to take our order. Further, she deliberately failed to make eye contact, which prevented us from getting her attention.

Normally, I would have walked out, but my teenage daughter had her heart set on eating there.

After finally ordering and getting to eat, the bill came and I saw I was being overcharged. When I pointed out the error, the waitress was snotty about it, as if I had no right to point out the error. After I argued the bottom line with her, she said in a snappy tone that she would have the error corrected, but then I had to wait 25 minutes for her to come back with the revised bill. Yet when the revised bill came back, I saw I was still being overcharged by $3.00, which I paid just because I didn’t want to wait an additional 25 minutes to get out of there and I didn’t want to deal with her snotty attitude anymore.

Considering I loved the pizza, I phoned in an order at a later date for carry-out from their carry-out menu, which I had. When I arrived to pick it up, I saw again that I was being overcharged. So I looked at their carry-out menu (the one they had on site and were giving out) to see if my version was outdated, and it was not. So I pointed out the error to the cashier. She was also rude and snotty saying “I go by what the cash register says!”. Again, I pointed out what the menu indicated the price was at which time she said the menu was incorrect and that she only goes by what the cash register indicates.

I then asked to speak to the manager at which time she told me she was the manager and was too busy to discuss the matter further.

I then told her that it should not be my problem if the menu is incorrect and that I should not be charged a higher price than what the menu indicates.

At the time the restaurant was busy with many customers seated, standing around and waiting in line behind me to pick up their carry-out orders. Then in a loud and sharp tone she snapped at me “Either pay for the pizza or leave without it! Now do you want the pizza or not?!”, which attracted the attention of many of their customers.

It was a totally embarrassing experience, as it must have appeared to their customers that I was trying to scam the cashier.

This is what I eventually figured out. You can order a specialty pizza at a lower price, then what they do to raise the price is charge you for a cheese pizza and add the price of the toppings individually. So, if a specialty pizza is $18, they can get the price up to $21 or $22 by adding the toppings separately instead of as a package deal. I guess that is what they call “bait and switch”. In other words, they have a sneaky way of cheating customers.

I don't know if they do this to everybody or just to customers who they think will not catch it, but they did it to me twice in a row.

If you don't mind dealing with all that, I will say the pizza is very good. Otherwise, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

Our family has gotten pizza from here for over 8 years! Love the pizza! The sauce and crust are amazing, it is a little greasy though! What pizza isn't though, right?

I agree with Stay Away – I gave one star because I couldn't rate it lower. We called to make a reservation for 2 on Saturday and were told they didn't take reservations for less than 4. So I asked how long was the wait and was told around 10 minutes. We live 5 miles away so we went, put in our name and waited in the bar. 35 minutes later, after watching the hostess seat three couples who were not waiting I asked, when do we get seated? She told me reservations come first. When i told her that I tried to make a reservation and was told of their policy, ' I didn't take your call, and these other people had reservations". When i asked to see her reservation log, she told me either you wait for a table or leave. As i was leaving she told me to never come back. Belive me, i won't. I've eaten there and the food isn't that special.

Stay Away – Pizza was ok but we ordered a half sausage and half pepperoni and was charged an extra 5.00 for an extra topping. When I confronted the waitress about his mistake she corrected me and said every additional ingrediant is added to the cost . No wonder the place was nearly empty at dinnertime.

THE BESTEST RESTAURANT! – THEIR FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! ALL OF IT... FROM THE LASAGNA AND BIGGEST MEATBALL SANDWICH I HAVE EVER SEEN, TO THEIR VERY TASTY AND EXCELLENT PIZZA! THIS IS THE "ONLY" ITALIAN RESTAURANT ANYONE SHOULD GO TO! WE HAVE BEEN CUSTOMERS FOR OVER 32 YEARS, WHEN THEY STARTED OUT ON 76TH AND BECHER AND THEN HAD TO MOVE TO A BIGGER LOCATION AT 69TH AND LINCOLN AVENUE. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! IT IS THE BEST.......

Excellent Pasta – My wife and I tried Filippo's at a friends recommendation and are glad we did! It is local place that doesn't have a flashy look to it but the food is great and portions huge. We were seated immediately and our server did a great job.

We usually don't order appetizers but heard the Sicilian garlic bread was good and it was exceptional. The dinner came with soup (wonderful) and bread (good as well but since we had the garlic bread we took it home) and a salad (which was OK). My wife ordered the lasagna and I ordered the cannelloni. We shared our pastas and the lasagna was great and the cannelloni was one of the best I've ever eaten. We only ate half of the meals so we are looking forward to enjoying the rest of it later.

We saw lots of people ordering pizza and so we will be back to try that as well. A simple, local place with incredible food for a reasonable price.

Still the best Italian food!! – I read a review from soneone written late in January. It was an awful review. We already had plans to go to go to Fillipo's and so I was leary. We have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We had reservations for 9 people (4 children) at 6:00 P.M. We arrived at 5:00, expecting not to be seated. They went out of their way to set up tables right away. The food was as good as always. We had Sicilian Steak, veal piccata, lasagna and tortellini. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly. The veal was tender and the sauce was very good. The kids loved the chicken strips and fries as always. I paid attention to cleanliness and the serving of the food and I didn't see anything unusual. I will say that the service was a little slow. In defense of them, however, it was a busy Saturday night and they were very busy. We did not find the entrees to be out of line compared to other restaurants. If you are expecting to pay $ 5 to $10 for an entree then maybe an Appleby's or Perkins should be your choice. We will definitely be going back and still consider it our favorite Italian restaurant.
