Tips for Nail Tech Academy

Not a good experience.... Well, I should have listened to the other reviewers. I'm sad to say that I just cannot recommend this place. The very simple manicure took about 1-1/2 hours and was just so-so at best. She cut (caused bleeding) on one cuticle (okay, this can happen anywhere, but not good!). She barely shaped my nails at all, and just didn't seem very adept at what she was doing. On the plus side, she did remove most excess cuticle. Yes, it was cheap, but I would not go back.

The place is just dismal, and could use a serious overhaul. Dingy and did not look clean. Also, it was very stuffy--and no air conditioning--at least not while I was there. The supervisor barely checked her work, and did not notice any imperfections. Too bad--I was really hoping it would be a place I'd like to return to.

No Professionalism here.. Well, I could have received a better manicure from my 12 yr old. I called to set an appointment, this should have been my first clue. Mr. West, was not very accomodating and very uninviting. However, I wanted to give it a try. I arrived, paid ahead of time which is a great suggestion and then choose my color. I was greeted by the student and sat down by her work station that was set up with a towel and paper towel. Her implements were not in a sanitizer solution and I didn't see one in sight. (SCARY) Come to find she has only been there a week and is already providing services on people. I inquired as to what her class room learning is like and she said they don't have scheduled class time. They are given a book and they are shown how to do something and then they practice. (seems a little loose, seeing as these girls are paying over $2000 to attend). Well, during my manicure, I observed lots of text messaging by other students who were also performing pedicures on guests. I beg your pardon, is this a business or a free for all? Ok, back to the manicure, she filed, nipped, Mr. West came to critique her process so far. He told her my nails were uneven from how she shaped them, but nope she didn't fix it, nor did he request her to. What, no hand massage? Nope, she told me to rub in my lotion. That is a first for me. On the side she had her list of procedures and said that they follow these steps. I would not recommend anyone to have a service here. I question the sanitation, safety, and education these students are receiveing, if any. It seems like a convenient way for Mr. West to take advantage of students who are not receiveing an education, providing services they are not ready to do. He is charging $2000 from each one and then for the services they provide. Seems to me that Mr. West is in the wrong business. The students are really being mislead if they are hoping to seek employment in the Beauty Industry. I really would suggest looking elsewhere for a Manicuring education.
