This centrally located movie theater is a great place to bring the kids, thanks to the arcade next door. Don't miss the Marble Slab ice cream in the lobby.
Nice centrally located theater with plush seats – Edwards Greenway always has the good movies playing and is well located at Weslayan near the 59 freeway, but it's usually not my first choice for a theater and I've got to wonder why. Is it because of the $3 parking? Maybe. Is it because the tickets are more expensive than at AMC? Maybe. Is it because it's always packed? No.
The positive thing about this theater is that it isn't always packed, and the seats - red velvety new seats - are comfortable. There's enough leg room for you to stretch out if it is packed, and the sound system with JBL speakers is great. I like the murals of celebrities that aren't so good that you know exactly who they are trying to depict. Upstairs I picked out Demi Moore, Pierce Brosnan , Mel gibson and a few other famous faces whose names escape me right at this moment. I also like the fact that there's a Marble Slab stand next to the ticket booth but I don't like the fact that you can't bring it in the theater. It's a nice theater, a bit on the expensive side if you count the $3 parking, but if you don't want to be surrounded by obnoxious rowdy kids or squished in like a sardine without enough leg room, this is a great place to watch a movie.
parked at Greenway Center and got towed. Talked to other people and they said the place is a scam and is notorious for towing. We usually park in the garage but this time wanted to park in a different place. Big mistake even though the businesses were closed and we were spending money in the same center we still got towed. One of the employees at a shop that was open said the tow truck hides around the corner and comes out to tow people. Another woman told me that many of her friends had been towed even though they ate at the restaurant there because they made the mistake of walking around in the area for a little while after their meal. DON'T GO TO THIS THEATER OR ANY BUSINESS IN THE GREENWAY PLAZA OR GREENWAY CENTER!!!!!!
Worst Theater Ever – I had gone to this theater a couple of times with my boyfriend and his kids and swore I would never go back. Not only do you have to pay $3 to park, their ticket prices are the highest in the city. If they don't get all your money there or with their high price concessions, they will get it in their arcade. Their arcade games are unmanned and either don't work or give you 10 seconds of play for $1.50. They had a power outage one time and our movie ran late and the Manager was very short and rude to me. I usually go to premiers at the one on Katy Fwy but tonight it was at this one. I didn't realize that the parking takes Cash Only so I had to drive through and go find an ATM just so I could park. This makes me late. I am then directed to go upstairs where I am greeted by a ticket taker and two managers. The manager closes to me informs me that I can
Ridiculously Overpriced – Seems to already be plenty of one-star reviews for this place, but I'll add mine anyway.
I had always thought this movie theater to be overpriced, but after yesterday's experience, my friends and I will not be coming back here again.
A movie plus parking for two is well over $25 ($10.25 per adult ticket, plus $3 to park; if you park anywhere nearby you WILL be towed even if the other businesses are closed). Good luck trying to find off-street parking as the strip behind the theater is always packed.
My friend got towed from the empty business lot next to the theater and we chipped in to pay off the $200 it cost to get her car out of the impound where they held her car hostage. The rest of us got screwed by paying the extra $3 cash to park, including ATM fees if we didn't have cash.
The interior of the theater is typically packed with pre-teens running rampant and the employees seen clueless. It just seems like an added annoyance to deal with an added parking fee when movie ticket prices are already sky high. If I go out for a film, I much prefer the MarqE location off I-10.
Beware of towing!!! – I guess I should rate this as the Best $220 movie I saw!
Be extremely careful where you park!
Since my parents haven't been there we decided to meet up and see "RED" there since it was the only 4pm projection closer to where we live. My parents passed the vallet parking, asked for parking and weren't told that there was a parking lot attached to the theatre and parked on the next lot which was empty since all the businesses were closed.
Big surprise to come out and see their car towed! It must be vallet parking people working for the take with the towing co. or something of the type, since the tow truck was parked inside the Edwards parking garage.
The movie itself was fine, although there was only one concession stand open and one employee behind the counter with 200 people in line so we didn't get popcorn in time for the movie.
I understand that the theater co. cannot be responsible for parking but I am sure they can at least curb some of that open parking piracy going on outside by educating their vallet service or at least offer to waive the $3 fee if you bought tickets. Considering that this is not such a busy part of town it is surprising to expect this kind of vigilant towing, especially since all these businesses are closed on Sunday!
When all is said and done, even though my parents liked the theater, Edwards has lost 3 clients. After this kind of experience it is impossible to think of this as a place where you'd visit again. I just wish I've read the reviews where people mentioned getting towed before suggesting the venue to them.
Next movie would be at AMC30 where you can park for free.
WORST THEATER IN HOUSTON....do NOT go there! – Never EVER come to this sh*thole of a theater! You have been warned! 1) you must PAY to park! 2) their ticket prices are two dollars per person more THAN ANY OTHER THEATER IN TOWN 3) their concessions are approximately 30% more costly than other theaters locally 4) if you DO go there pay the nine bucks for valet parking (it's a rip-off, I know, but trust me, do it) or YOU WILL BE TOWED!!!!! my wife and I spent 21 bucks on two tickets to a show, another 22 bucks for a small popcorn and two drinks and 300 freaking dollars to get our car out of impound because we didn't valet! I HOPE THE PLACE BURNS DOWN TOMORROW~!!!!! Never EVER EVER EVER EVER catch a movie at this DUMP! I only wish there was a "zero stars" option. I would rather eat a turd than ever return to this horrible sh*thole.
Expensive, but pretty. Nice for a couple. Bad for a family. – I actually really like the Edwards theater. And when a couple asks me about going to a theater, I recommend it. It can seem majestic due to its size and lighting. The smells are often of popcorn and candy, like a theater should be.
If a family asks me, I point them in the direction of AMC Dunvale or something like that. It's just too expensive unless you're trying to impress someone. :)
Generally, I'd say Edwards theater is great once in a while, but it gets so costly that I prefer it only for epic films. Iron Man. Star Trek. Avatar. I've seen those here, but for the less-anticipated films I like River Oaks. :) Simple. Nice. Comfy. And generally quiet.
Get ready to empty those wallets! – If you're looking for a cheap night out, don't come to this theatre. Like everyone else said, parking is paid, which is now $3. I drove around trying to find the street parking I was told about, but never found any. Most of the street parking spaces are now Truck Parking or No Parking zones. If you park there, you will get a ticket that will run you about $65. I know, since this what street parking violations run now.
Thus, you are forced into paid parking. When you go in, you will have a loud, rude attendant yell at you and send you in the parking garage maze. Good luck finding the right elevator and have fun wandering around, because there are two different elevators at completely opposite ends of the garage.
Once you finally, find the right elevator, be prepared to be disoriented further when you exit. You will walk through another mini maze of doors and another set of elevators to get to the main lobby to purchase a ticket that will run you anywhere from just under $8 to just under $10. Thankfully, I went there last night on a free sneak preview of "Whip It!" Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone.
The inside staff members I spoke to were actually helpful and surprisingly, not rude. Even so, it didn't sway me to purchase any of the overpriced foods from the concession stand. The prices are outrageous and I would suggest that you bring your own, to be perfectly honest.
The restrooms were sort of a mess, but that can only be blamed on the hordes of women destroying them. The rest of the theatre that I saw was relatively clean, with the exception of promotional handouts being tossed in random places.
All in all, the movie itself was excellent and there were no problems with it running smoothly. Just be prepared to pay!
No Student Discounts – I just went to watch a movie last week with a couple of my girlfriends and asked for a student ticket. The lady giving tickets said that they do not give student discounts on fridays or on the weekends.
I thought that that was just stupid. They are trying to get as much money as possible. Soon enough STUDENTS are going to stop going because its SO expensive. I dont even feel like going back there any more. Everything is SO overpriced.
greedy schmucks – It is unconscionable to charge people to park at a movie theater, especially when tickets are already at the top of the market rate, if not higher.
Refreshment price – These refreshment prices need to REDUCE! A 32 oz coke costs $4.50 and a small popcorn is $5.50. That totals over $10 for two things. It is not a very honest price for the customers.
Can you image if it's for whole family package price? Go to Fleming's or Taste of Texas!!!!!
