“The only "children" here are rude adults who don't turn off cell phones -- and they are manageable!”
Art-house flicks, box-office hits, a full-service cafe and free parking make this Bayou Place complex a must-see..
The Scene
Inside, it's cool and graceful--quite calming, really. The muted tones of the art-deco lobby seem to whisper, "Relax." At the Angelika Cafe & Bar, dashing young servers prepare coffee and espresso drinks for the crowds. (Try the mocha, made with real whipped cream.) If you arrive early enough, you can even enjoy a light meal before the movie.
The Draw
Who knew you could see an art-house film and still be comfortable? The Angelika's stadium-style seats are so large and plush that you can't imagine why you ever went to another theater.
cool place. I love this place! The parking is a bit of a pain unless you don't mind paying the valet. But then again, I suppose everything downtown is a pain when it comes to parking. The theaters are nice and cozy, friendly staff, very cool atmosphere! The best thing about it is the absence of hood-rats that seem to infest just about every other theater in Houston.
Only if popcorn and a drink won't do .... It was a slow night with perhaps 4-6 couples in the cafe so we would have little or no wait for our food. We had a lackluster waiter who could have seemed less interested in us even being seated in his section. The host who seated us was munching on a cookie in between seating people - how professional! The food was hit and miss, which was also a shame because we had high hopes and hungry appetites. I had the shrimp nachos and the grilled tuna sandwich - no complaints with quality there other than price and lack of zing that would make me rave to friends. My boyfriend ordered the Caesar salad with a pizza which turned out to be a over-cheesed mistake on a flavourless crust. Our final verdict is to eat at another location and save the Angelika for films and popcorn ...
Nothing else like it!. The Angelika Fim Center & Cafe is the only way to have dinner and see a movie in Houston. And, they let you take your beverage with you into the theatre. We rarely go any place else.
best theater in Houston. I love this place. Validated underground parking, student rates, decent movie selection, polite audiences, and THE ONLY THEATER IN HOUSTON that can successfully project a movie without screwing up the picture (size, focus, orientation) and sound.
Respite from MegaPlex Madness. AHHHHH! A place where a grown-up can see a first-run or an arthouse movie without Gang-Kidz and overscrubbed PooPoos from FortBend County. This is NOT the theater that Minivan Mom drops off the kidz to let the theater staff babysit -- fortunately, they are relegated to the 'Burbs. Not a teen hangout, either. Grown-ups watching grown-up movies and having grown-up concessions. The only "children" here are rude adults who don't turn off cell phones -- and they are manageable! GREAT THEATER!
The Best!. Wow, free parking, great restaurant/coffee bar and no kids movies! I'm in heaven!
