It's no secret that this theatre is an off-the-beaten path fave. We recently saw an IMAX 3D film and the theatre was almost empty on a weekday night. With arcade games in the parlor, movie-sized candy at Rite Aid next door and a wine shop across the street, you can make your own party here.

Used to be great! – What the hec? Used to love this theater - recently saw two action movies with big budget soundtracks - surround sound speakers were off and front speakers were muffled and dull. Bad. Time to look for another regular spot.

One of the best big theatres – Great theatre... no hooligans like in times square and nice little places to eat around. Got some free tickets for a show and thought that was cool so I'm writing a review as a thanks.

A Dark Night, indeed – We knew to expect crowds for The Dark Knight, which we'd bought tickets for the previous week online. But we had no idea the kind of suffering we'd be forced to endure while waiting. After waiting for a short while in the cool, clean lobby, we were ushered inside-- not into the theater itself but into a "holding cell" in the hallway-- a roped off area in which we were clustered together and made to stand for an hour and a half. There was no air conditioning in the hallway and so all of us were sweating like pigs. I can only imagine what would have happened if any senior citizens were made to wait-- they probably would have collapsed from heat stroke. In fact, our collective body heat was so intense that it set off the fire alarm. (The huge amount of people standing in such a tiny space, meanwhile, was almost certainly a fire code violation.) During this time we were given no info about when we would be let into the theater, nor were any apologies for the extreme heat or discomfort offered. My friend found the number for the manager and called to complain; he didn't even realize the heat was still a problem. Things only got worse. When our friend who was working late arrived, one of us left to fetch him but an employee refused to let them back into the line. They even pointed out the sweat stains that were on his shirt, clearly showing that he'd been waiting with everyone else. While my friends were finally allowed back, this was only after an extended argument during which an employee physically pushed my (petite female) friend. Our tremendous relief at finally being allowed into the theater wasn't enough to offset the overall misery of the experience.

A large and very welcome addition to an underserviced movie-going area. – The Scene
Sprawling near the East River, this 15-screen multiplex offers comfortable stadium seating and screen sizes ranging from immense to more intimate. Its relatively remote location reduces the ambient-noise level and makes for a pleasant experience--both before and after the show.

The Draw

Lots of NYU med-school students and Murray Hill dwellers mean a polite, attractive clientele. The automated ticket machines reduce gridlock, as does the theater's spacious interior. Shows at this theater do tend to sell out, though--particularly for the more independent films--so check it out before you make the trek. The munchies are standard movie fare, which today can consist of anything from popcorn to chicken strips. If you hanker for something a tad more highbrow, pop on over to the Borders Books Cafe next door, or to the Starbucks across the street, and stuff an overpriced scone in your pocket.

See new releases FAST – Try to see new movies in the first couple weeks that it comes out. They are placed in the big theatres, if not you will be sitting in a little stevie style 40 seat theatre with poor sound and people on top of you.

Best In the City – Hands Down, the best in the city. Huge theatres, and you can get cheap candy at Rite Aid next door.

Overrated – Let's see here. Rude people at "Customer Service", images not adjusted to fit the screen, incorrect showtimes in every local paper and Moviefone AND in the actual theater lobby!!!
