A place for West Portal residents to see first-run movies. – In Short
The theater's aura can be gleaned from the glaring red tile and cheap plastic marquee jammed onto what's left of the original theater, which still bears a few architectural remnants from its 1930s infancy. The main floor auditorium (402 seats) is acceptable, but two upstairs theaters (176 and 156 seats) were carved from the balcony. Steep seating ensures a good view of the small screens, despite the annoying angle.
What a store-front theater should be – This atmospheric little gem is more of a cinema-going pleasure than most of the central overstuffed multiplexes in the city. Remodelling has led to comfortable seating, a pleasant foyer, and all but eliminated noise interference between auditoria. Audio-visual quality is good, and one is not drowned in advertisements for thirty minutes before the feature either. Recommended.
Awful theater. – Avoid paying $9 at this theater, at all costs. The sound is horrible, and the walls aren't insulated enough to block sounds from the other movies playing concurrently. Someone needs to shut this place down in respect of consumer interest.
