Good for movies, bad for people! – Love all of the Laemmle locations for the sheer fact that they carry the indie movies that most of the larger cinema-plexes wont. With that said, they really need to clean the chairs of all of the gum that is stuck to them. Yuck! Other than that, their prices are fantastic (yay for student discounts) and from what I remember, parking is free or close to it. Next time you visit, please sign up for their membership... you get invited to special (and FREE) screenings every so often. Awesome, right?

Difficult and frustrating logistics. – Not a great experience . Wonderful selection of films, but difficult parking and if you accidentally get the wrong validation (not all are consistent in the complex) you will pay more than the tickets. No room for error here. In fact, the staff was quite rude.

Art house cinema at the edge of the Sunset Strip is West Hollywood's go to for independent film. – Only in L.A. would an unassuming art house cinema _ a sceney WeHo gym like Crunch Fitness. Beyond the nightmarish parking garage, the shopping complex has its benefits--from coffee (Starbucks) and restaurants (Sushi Dan) to a view of the hills and cushy outdoor seating areas illuminated by lanterns overhead. Expect to see everything indie on the big screen--including documentaries, foreign flicks and even shorts. The Sunset 5 hosts several international film and short festivals throughout the year and sometimes hosts premiers for documentaries and other indies. Each of the five theaters holds around 200 seats, and concessions include gourmet pretzels, bagel dogs and frappuccinos.

Nice for indies but otherwise this place would be subpar – Because this is the only real convenient indie movie theatre in the area (amazing huh?) it does alright with patronage. Judged on it's own however, this theatre would flunk. The popcorn is cold (and I believe made off-site ... at least it takes stale enough). The theatres are dank. The staff seem bored. The line for tickets can get crazy long. If it weren't for the selection, I'd never choose to go here.

SMALL BUT WORTH THE EFFORT – Although the screens in this theatre are mostly of the SMALL size, they do have two larger screens, the experience is very nice. It is a date theatre with excellent independant films. The current $10.00 price INCLUDES your parking so the over priced comment no longer applies (ACCEPT I think most theatres are overpriced on their concessions and ticket prices). Go and enjoy.

User review by maille199 – I love the sunset 5 because it really feels like a small town movie theatre. They always show exactly what I am interested in seeing, and I really like being able to count on that.

Tickets do sell out quickly so I recommend arriving early. If you are a munchie junkie, you are in luck; they have every item you could possibly crave, from junk food to organic. When i'm at the sunset 5 i forget I'm in la; it's small, quiet, and comfortable. **A great plus, Laemmle has a great e-mail newsletter, so if you find that you enjoy the theatre you can get updates on what's new, what's old, and what is interesting.

good neighborhood spot – Bring your Student ID for a discount... and they finally started taking credit cards. They also validate for parking in the building.

some of the theaters are better than others - this is NOT your huge multi-plex, stadium style, expensive theatre. You will not see them playing the major blockbuster, box office hits - it's just a neighborhood movie house where you can catch some of the Indies that aren't playing anywhere else.

Reliably Good Movies – The Sunset 5 consistently schedules the city's best selection of art-house, mainstream and event films. Been hearing buzz about a film-festival favorite? It'll probably end up here. Never got around to seeing that arty hit while it was showing across town? You can probably still catch it at the Sunset 5. Looking for a quirky midnight screening to relive your college days? This place has you covered. (Anybody remember the midnight "Showgirls" screenings with Jackie Beat?) Prices are comparable to most theaters, and the showtimes are great for early risers (10am screenings, for example) and late-night viewers. The rest of the complex is a nice outdoor place to grab a cup of joe (Buzz Coffee) or browse for some new music (Virgin Megastore). The only problem is the crazy, chaotic, chronically packed parking garage.
