Mellon Arena is an outdated venue – I saw a Pearl Jam concert at Mellon Arena in April of 2003. this place is too outdated for a concert let alone a sporting event. the halls in the concourse are so small you need to watch where you walk to avoid running into to someone. if you want to grab a soda or a beer it takes forever. this Arena needs to be torn down or rebuilt b/c it is lacking in many areas. Mario Lemieux has stated the he will move the Penguins NHL Franchise unless a new Arena is built.

The names read like a who's who of the entertainment century: Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles, Lemieux, Springsteen, Jagger, Garth, Jagr, Van Damme...just kidding. – The Scene
Jean Claude of that forgettable movie "Sudden Death" might not belong on that list, but he is among the thousands of entertainers who have performed at Mellon Arena. Constructed in 1961, Mellon Arena (formerly Civic Arena) has played host to countless musical acts, variety shows and professional sports events. Known as "the Igloo" to many for it's snowblock-like steel dome and for being the home ice for the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins, Mellon Arena is situated downtown on the Hill District side of Pittsburgh.

Who's There
With a seating capacity of over 17,000, the Arena continues to host the headliners. From NCAA Men's Basketball tournament first- and second-round games in '96 to World Wrestling Federation matches to concerts from Billy Joel and Metallica to annual events like Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and the Harlem Globetrotters, the Igloo can pack 'em in.
