The best overall outdoor concert venue in the city, if not the whole country. A mix of topnotch entertainment, plus great picnicking and a BYO policy (for non-lease events), make it ideal for groups, dates, family outings, and an awesome place to impress visitors.
I actually like visiting the Bowl during the day when a event isn't going on. You can just come to the empty bowl and still have a picnic in the huge outdoor theater! But it's still super awesome to come when Florence and the Machine is playing!
This is a must-do in the summer for Angelenos and visitors alike. I don't care what's playing. Just pack and picnic and go. Extra pro tip: since it's a state park, it's open and free during the day to sit, read and explore.
As a native Angeleno I can say that the Hollywood Bowl is one of my favorite things in LA. Scenic, fun, great for a group or a romantic date. I love packing a picnic and listening to live music under the stars!
While the perfect concert venue, the Bowl is also incredible for Opera and live theatre! I've seen Ray Charles, La Philharmonic, Jason Mraz, and more perform here and it's always an experience worth having.
Best place to spend the summer in LA. Live music under the stars, bring in all the booze and alcohol you want. Buy tix at box office to save $$$.
I defy you to find a better place to see a concert in Los Angeles. The scenery is beautiful, the BYOB policy is outstanding and I've never seen a show where the musicians aren't giving it their all because they're so excited to play here.
Historic – Always good to catch a concert at this LA landmark. The different summer series offers great shows. John Williams conducting his movie scores with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Lots of Jazz and Classical performances. I can't wait for The Who at the beginning of July (my favorite band). Just wish John Cleese would be walking around the audience shouting "Albatross" (see Month Python at the Hollywood Bowl).
Cheap Seats Rock! – I've seen everyone from Ray Charles to the LA Philharmonic to Jane's Addiction here. The acoustics ROCK & the venue is the most beautiful venue I've seen in a city. Go to the summer series--you can get tickets for as little as $3 and there are buses to take you to the show (if you want to drink & enjoy yourself.) The bowl lets you bring in picnics AND BYOB. It's great music, an incredible sound system & a really fun crowd--esp in the cheap seats!
Music under the stars – What can be better than sipping wine and eating dessert under the stars with thousands of people around? How about you add some great music? The Hollywood Bowl is truly an icon. Great place for a date or a fun night with friends. Bring food and drink - it's the only way to listen to classical or jazz. Ticket prices from $100 to $1 (no kidding!)
A Must for Angelenos and Visitors – The Bowl is one of the best things L.A. has to offer residents and out-of-town guests. There's nothing like a picnic under the stars while listening to great music on a warm L.A. night. Pick a show--any show--and plan a meal. Make this a entertainment priority this summer and every summer. Last year, I saw Cesaria Evora, Bebel Gilberto, Sade and the Playboy Jazz Festival, and each experience was a great one. The best trip to the Bowl, however, was a splurge--bought box seats, a real treat, though you can have a great time in the bleachers, as well. One warning: DO NOT park at the Bowl. Park in the garage at the corner of La Brea and De Longpre and take the shuttle. It's cheap, easy and makes the whole experience a lot nicer.
