Home to the Fighting Illini. – The Facts
While Chicago's Soldier Field was being refurbished, the NFL Bears played the entire 2002 home season in Champaign. Memorial Stadium continues to be the home field for the Illinois football team. It's grown to 70,904 seats.

The Background
The dedication of Memorial Stadium was held on October 18, 1924, with a big ceremony and a football game in which a young man from Wheaton ran for six touchdowns. His name? Red Grange. And, since the game was against a powerful Michigan team, it's remembered as one of the greatest single-game performances for a running back in college football history.
