Wilting Bloomies – The service at the Home and Furnishings store on Wabash in Chicago is completely lax. I assumed the folks who worked there had the attitude they did because their salaries were not good. Though the item I wanted was in the store, I decided not to buy it since the two sales women decided to ignore me and talk about their personal lives instead of helping me. They seemed happy when I gave up and left. Years ago when I lived in New York, everything, and I mean everything I ordered from Bloomingdales arrived broken. We sent it all back, but customer service never apologized and never seemed to care.

Shop Elsewhere – I feel like I am doing a public service by writing this review. My husband and I were shopping for an entertainment center and purposely selected one that was available for delivery in 4 weeks. The piece was delayed 4 times - no one ever called , emailed, wrote, smoke signaled to notify us. Rather, we had to call customer service each time only to be told that it was delayed because of (1) weather, (2) damaged merchandise, and (3) significant back order. The only constant comment was that "it's not us, it's the manufacturer." We finally had to call the Store Manager who sold us another piece that we received in 3 weeks. At this point, we were already into this 3 months, they had erroneously charged our credit card in full (they are supposed to wait until it ships) and felt like we had little choice. Now we are waiting for the promotional "BBUCKS" which no one at customer service seems to know anything about. Our sales rep has never called us back with an answer (11 voice mail messages), customer service (although nice) can't help you with more info beyond what the automated voice tells you and doesn't seem bothered by that, and emails via bloomingdales website go unanswered. The sad truth is that I'm not mean or nasty when I call - I try to get the problem fixed, but no one has answers and no one cares to find them. I guess you have to be bitchy.

Shop somewhere, anywhere else. The next time retailers complain about consumer spending going down, they should perhaps consider that they make it nearly impossible to do business with them.

Urbanites and out-of-towners mingle in search of upscale, occasionally avant-garde, home decor. – The Scene
Located in the historic Medinah Temple, meandering here is a bit of an ethereal experience--particularly on the top floor where dramatic stained glass windows set a modern-meets-historic tone. Throughout the spiraling space snooty urbanites spree shop, while tourists "ooh" and "ahh" over four floors of upper crust end tables, elaborate kitchen gadgets and baubles aplenty. Its sophisticated and surprisingly approachable staff has been trained to meet most every whim--with a smile all the while.

The Goods
The lower level features high-thread-count sheets, while the main floor caters to foodies with a penchant for kitchen chic. Upstairs levels accommodate to the newly wed and those in need of beds. While nothing here--from the sofas to the soft, fluffy towels--is cutting edge, high construction and traditional, sometimes pubby-country clubby, detailing ooze the taste of those with multiple homes.
