New York in LA – If you miss Barney's in New York, then this a good place to go. Perhaps, the service is more on the politeness scale of a New York deii. Great New York style bagels and loz.
Terrible Actress chosen over 5 year employee – Do not know if I ever want to eat there....because if you are waiter or waitress you can be fired for tweeting about a celebrity who cant pay the bill nor can they leave a decent tip. The waiter who was fired may not know how to use twitter or the internet but I do......... :)
Bad corporate policies – Responsibiity got it perfect!!!! Companies and their management are so far up celebrities butts that employees and real people are treated like 6th class citizens. Jane Adams and every other "celebrity" deserves to be called out publicly and humiliated for being rude, selfish, self-important, arrogant and down right stupid. Barney Greengrass management needs to learn that good employees are hard to find. The waiter that got fired for standing up for himself and tweeting the truth deserves a very public and generous ($$$) apology for your arogance and stupidity.
Shame on Barneys!!! – I am disgusted that celebrities are treated better than "regular" customers and/or employees. Firing an employee who gave 5 years to the company over a tweet about an irresponsible and rude celebrity who full well deserved to be publicly called out...(Jane Adams)...is inexcusable! Especially in this recession, not to mention the fact that we are in the wireless age. Shame on Barney's management! Shame on the company as a whole! Join me in boycotting this company until they learn to treat both "regular" customers and employees with the same respect they give to celebrity customers who do not deserve to be treated with respect! Look up the employee's blog "How to succeed as a failure" J.A. skipped out on her bill, paid it through her agent the next day (no tip) and then after hearing about what she did on twitter came back to the restaurant to pay the tip "$3", told the employee she heard about it on twitter and got the employee fired. Shame on Barney's and shame on Jane Adams!
Haute deli offers comfort for New Yorkers suffering L.A. culture shock. – In Short
All the neutrals in Calvin Klein's palette flow together at this sleek-surfaced deli on the fifth floor of Barneys New York. The interior dining area is set up with mahogany tables and on the terrace seats are shaded by large umbrellas. The classic delicatessen menu features bagels slathered with creamy chopped liver, cinnamon-laced matzo brei with berries, cold poached salmon and brisket of beef. Various fresh salads are also available, and salty whitefish is flown in fresh from NY.
Where West Coast Ladies Lunch – After a day of shopping and celeb watching, why not enjoy some tasty lox, or a cobb salad and a glass of Chardonnay, while looking at the mountains? The last three times I went, I saw celebs, including the Olson twins (if they qualify) and Pamela Anderson!
NYC Grrengrass is worlds better than LA – The fish isn't as fresh, the bagels are flown, frozen, from NYC -- and mostly defrosted, and there's no chocolate babka.
Go for the patio, NOT the fish.
Greengrass needs a manegment makeover! – Normally I am a HUGE fan of Greengrass. I've been going there since they opened and the food is very good but after the atrocious service I received recently I'll never return. The manegment's treatment of customers is disgusting, acting as if we're doing them a favor by dining there. Our server did her best to apologize for the manager's constant harassment and rudeness (she sent the host out several times to take our table from us) and while I appreciated her sympathy it was too little too late. While the view is lovely and the food is nice it's not worth spending the money to be treated like a second class citizen by people who are supposed to be making your experience a favorable one.
Abominable rudeness – I had brunch here with five girlfriends on Sunday; we were supposed to be six, but one friend didnt come. We were seated at a table that comprised two tiny four-top tables. The host asked us constantly if our sixth was coming; when it became clear she wasnt the host rudely asked us to pull one table out and have all five of us sit at one minuscule four-top. A very small table, with our huge breakfast plates--the ridiculousness of this concept, given the table size, was laughable. The staff made us order for the imaginary sixth guest AND they placed an automatic 18% gratuity because we were a party of six--not! The bottom line is a celebrity was waiting for a table, so they were willing to alienate us. Hey, the food isnt that good to put up with the obnoxiousness of the managerial staff.
Not Your Mom's Deli – It's rather unconventional for a New York-style, but the food here is fresh and tasty. And for you star-struck folk, there's usually a celebrity or two grabbing a nosh in between shopping sprees.
