Portions are HUGE. Great place for breakfast and lunch. Delicious french onion soup. Red velvet cake is very popular.
Great breakfast place with bustling crowd and servers. Make sure you get here earlier than the rush or else you'll be waiting for a bit. Almond crusted strawberry french toast is heavenly.
With the aroma of Pumpkin Pancakes in the morning, and warm turkey in the evening, this excellent 3rd Street spot is even more delish around the holidays. Holla for the Challah French Toast!
Brunch at Doughboys is one of the few places that's worth the wait! Expect crowds on the weekends and be sure to save room for Red Velvet.
Favorite neighborhood breakfast and lunch spot known for their huge portions of salads, sandwiches and soups and their fan-favorite red velvet cakes.
GO ANYWHERE ELSE! – NOW ON HIGHLAND - Besides the dry meat, hard bread, flavorless soup and horrible service I was attacked by hundreds of black flies!! If your hungry try roadkill, it's probably better since I would not have to wait an hour for a waiter to bring it to me.
I wouldn't even bother with this place... – Bad food, bad, service, bad experience overall. I used to think this place was good when it was in the old location. I think the staff must hate the owner, and it shows. This place was dirty and out of almost everything on the menu. What was left over, was flavorless and stale. I will never return. Too bad because it used to be a pretty cool place to eat.
so bummed their closed – I know its only temporary, but I was really bummed when I attempted to have my favorite soup yesterday.
I must admit I haven't tried everything on the menu, I just stick to what I know. But even before fatty Oprah divulged on television how good their Red Velvet cake is, I was a huge fan. Can't wait till this place reopens.
CLOSED – I went to the one on 3rd today and it was closed and the windows had paper all over them. Guess they went out of business.
Trendy Lame Dirty – I work one block from the Highland location. It has been packed everyday since it opened. I have gone in several times with co-workers and had to wait for a table, then wait for service. The waits can be quite long. Once, we were given a free meal because we had waited so long for our food. Accidents happen, places can be short-staffed. By itself, slow service would not necessarily convince me to never go back. But I have gotten sick twice at this place !! They have a "B" letter grade posted in the window, which does not scare me off so much. I've eaten at some pretty seedy places and been fine. I don't know whether my food was contaminated, but something is not right in that kitchen. Besides that, I am not a fan of the flavors. The Doughboy salad, made with boiled chicken, tasted like something from the Ralph's refrigerator. If you want this type of sanwich-salad food with snotty trendy people around, I would recommend Cheebo on Sunset. At least the food is better there. And I have never gotten sick.
Greatest Red Velvet ANYWHERE – The breakfast portions are HUGE, the lunches and dinners range from heathy to greasy. This is the best comfort food in LA
Closed for over 6 months – Pretty sure this place has been close for over 6 months now. . . If you're in the neighborhood, try The Little Next Door [which is literally next door to the space formerly occupied by Doughboys] or Joan's on 3rd. If you don't mind going a little further west, Clementine is alway a great option.
Best Red Velvet cake – If you love red velvet cake you will love this one more than any other. This is the best cake period I have ever had.
VERMIN INFESTATION!!!! – DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY... Once again, this place has proven to be one of the dirtiest places in town. It was closed again Aug 17th for a few days for VERMIN INFESTATION!! Doughboys has a bogus sign saying its because they were remodeling their kitchen -BS. This place has dirty floors, dirty waiters, and dirty food. If you want to be trendy and stupid, go ahead, eat here, I think Ratatouille is the chef!
DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT SURPRISE MEAT IN YOUR FOOD.
Doughboys has the best French Onion Soup on the planet, I am sure . The red velvet cake is a perfect mini cake for a special birthday or special occasion. My complaint is not about the food- but the overall experience of the place is sort of tiring. It is very small, and even outside you will be crammed up next to someone who will probably be complaining about something worth rolling your eyes over. Inside you are literally on top of everyone. It isn't a comfortable place to eat. The food is really worth it sometimes.
