Portions are HUGE. Great place for breakfast and lunch. Delicious french onion soup. Red velvet cake is very popular.
Great breakfast place with bustling crowd and servers. Make sure you get here earlier than the rush or else you'll be waiting for a bit. Almond crusted strawberry french toast is heavenly.
With the aroma of Pumpkin Pancakes in the morning, and warm turkey in the evening, this excellent 3rd Street spot is even more delish around the holidays. Holla for the Challah French Toast!
Brunch at Doughboys is one of the few places that's worth the wait! Expect crowds on the weekends and be sure to save room for Red Velvet.
Favorite neighborhood breakfast and lunch spot known for their huge portions of salads, sandwiches and soups and their fan-favorite red velvet cakes.
Delicious french toast!! – I love breakfast food, and am always looking for a place that has good french toast. Of all of the places I've tried in LA, this place has the most options as far as different kinds of french toast (and it's delicious). I also wanted to try the red velvet cake that I've heard people rave about, so I took one to go. The frosting was good, but the cake itself was completely tasteless and rubbery/spongy-very disappointing. I've been there for lunch too and it was great. There is such a huge selection and everything sounds good. There's something here for everyone. Everything my friends and I have tried here has been great (except the red velvet cake, that is), and I would definitely recommend it. The downsides are the long waits on weekends, and the parking.
So yummy-go for the breakfast or dessert! – OK, i love doughboys! They have the best pancakes made from flax and blueberries and they are served all day. Plan for a wait during the wkends but they're open late and it's so affordable, also the portions are huge.
nothing to brag about – i have been to doughboys many times. i used to really enjoy their pizza, but i no longer frequent this place. the service is bad, the waitresses have no personality and the food is just plain average. meaning, you could probably make it at home and it will be of better quality.
good sweets – i went here with my friend specifically looking to buy sweets. we ending up buying a chocolate cupcake and a red velvet cupcake. they were delicious! we had eaten dinner already, so we didnt eat real food. but the food people were getting looked tasty. for sure, we'll be coming back to doughboys :)
I don't know? I guess I need to go back. – I've only been to Doughboys once but alot of people I know rave about this place. The one time I tried I was not impressed. I thought the food was basic and tasteless. I was also turned off by the fact that my food came and it was cold. I was told that I made the mistake of going for breakfast and that Doughboys is better for lunch. I am going to try this place again at lunch time and hope that I have a better experience.
Excellent gourmet comfort food at great prices – Doughboys is a solid choice for inspired salads and sandwiches. The onion soup is very good. They add tomatoes to their Caesar salad to make it extra yummy. And don't miss the decadent peanut butter, banana and chocolate sandwich. It's worth the calories. The only down side to Doughboys is the terrible service. The servers are like robots. No hello's, no smiles, no thank you's, nothing. Aside from that this place is one of my all time favorites.
a very fine bakery – Any of the baked goods here are fantastic. This place is a great low-key breakfast joint, I would recommend the bagel & salmon platter.
From French Onion Soup to Blueberry Flaxseed Griddle Cakes...how can you go wrong – Yes, there is a usually a line on the week-ends and during lunch which is why I always go after "rush hour". Regardless, the food here is great..and different. In L.A, where you are used to seeing so many of the same menu items time and time again, Doughboys makes for a really nice chance. From their extensive breakfast menu to their soups and salads and sandwiches, Doughboys just has is down. Having never been a huge French Onion Soup fan, Doughboys changed my mind..big time. I find myself craving it pretty often now. If you are sitting at Doughboys, look around. It's repeat customers time and time again. That's how you know a place is good. The atmosphere is cute (I'm glad they expanded), the service is just fine and, yes sometimes the food does take awhile - especially if you are starving and hungover...but, it's so worth it at the end!!
#1 choice for brunch! – Nevermind the snobs crying about the service here...you could p*nch me in the face while serving me the Blueberry Flaxseed Pancakes and I would be a happy camper. Go for the soup/salad combo and you will be treated to the most delicious bread this side of the country. And believe me, when Oprah says your Red Velvet cake is tops, she means it!. As for the service mentioned above...yeah it may be quirky and a bit slow at times...but it's a bakery/cafe not a five star restaurant.
My comfort food haven! – Mouth-watering bread, huuuuge bowls of soup and fresh ingredients make this my go-to spot when I need some comfort food! Love the soup au pistou and blueberry flaxseed pancakes, but you really can't go wrong with anything you order here. Red velvet cake is amazing too!
