The Pyramid Club is a dive bar's dive bar, a minute, barely visible hole in the wall where you meet floozies and flaneurs, drink rotgut whiskey, and listen to the New York Dolls on the jukebox. A consummate East Village destination, in other words.

Worst Bartender in NYC – I would give this review negative stars, if I could.

I came here for 80's night for my friends birthday. I wanted to buy her a drink, and was seriously waiting at the bar for 20 minutes. It was finally my turn, and the bartender said some extremely rude comments to me, and said he never was going to serve me.

Apparently he did this to every girl in my group. He ONLY served the guys.

Now, I was a bartender for 4 years, and am very sympathetic towards them. I know how people can be. I WAS NOTHING BUT NICE TO HIM. He was just a rude jerk (trying to keep this PG). Who only served guys he thought were cute (though he was not cute.. not that that really matters).

DO NOT GO HERE!

PAY LIGHT..PARTY HEAVY..AND YOU WILL RETURN!!! – $3-$8 for a thurs, fri or sat night!!.. the most respectful door gentleman in clubland, whos velvet rope is used only to keep the sidewalk clear...youre in, you pay, you dance your a** off til 4am, and if booze is your thing - $10 will get you SEVERAL beers or a few hard drinks! and the bartenders are FRIENDLY! most "mega" clubs could learn alot from the pyramid about how to please their customers. the pyramid has regulars - people who are addicted to good service and a good time...just like me - the ICON of the pyramid club! i dance shirtless, glazed in baby oil, on stage all night long (and girls, this is a good thing)! and i danced for 9 yrs at a "mega club" before finding my real home at the pyramid. no fights, no attitude, no worries about anything but which bathroom to use (there are 4)!! oh, music...the best of the 80s, from pop madonna and michael to the darker sounds of alternative/goth rock depeche mode and the cure. and down on the lower level, industrial techno where all the "children of the night" decend to for some serious stomping. got a song request? the djs have a request book that they DO follow!!! i can only criticize the location: ave A between 6/7th - and i can criticize it only because i live in NEW JERSEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would not travel 4 hrs each night - 3 nights per week if the pyramid club was not everything that ive just claimed it to be! as i enter my 3rd year there im only trying to draw to it the attention of everyone who seeks - desperately - the kind of nyc nightclub experience that once was in a lot of places, but now - for me - lives imortally at the pyramid club!!!! oh, and did i mention a "gentleman" at the door?!

I love this place! – Guaranteed fun and excitement whenever you go to this club. One of the best places to experience the real NYC nightlife. If you love 80's music, this is a place you MUST go to. This is a legacy night club that has been here ever since the start of disco. This place has been through it all, and has succesfully survived it all. Do not go this club if you crave a pretentious and trendy atmosphere. This is a place that caters to everyone (from hippies to yuppies and occasional celebrities). One of the few clubs in this city that actually deserves the label of being a club. The drinks are moderately priced and the cover is cheap ($5-$10). There is house and techno downstairs and 80's, new wave, etc on the ground level. Bottom line, this is one of my favorite clubs in the city and I definitely recommend this place.

Great drink prices!! – I try to stop in on Thursday's 80's New Wave night whenever I can. They have great drink prices ($2 and $3 beers and $4 mixed drinks). The last time I was in there I found out that they are starting to kick off local rock, metal and hardcore bands on Wednesday night. Hey it's only $10 cover at the door for a night of hot local bands. You can't beat that. Plus they sometimes book touring bands.

Welcoming environment - but not for women – We came here on Friday night, Oct. 27th, theme was "gay 80's" which we thought would be fun, but we didn't end up staying for very long. After one glass of red wine, I asked bartender #1 for a second one when he snapped back that they were "all out" at which point, somewhat taken aback, I asked whether they had white wine. At this point he began spewing out obsenities and insults at myself and a couple of my female friends, bringing me back to those glorious years in elementary school, calling us "hideous", "horseface" and similar clever names. Before long, bartender #1 succeeded in getting bartender #2 turned against us, and both decided they would no longer serve any of the 10 or 12 people affiliated with us. When we objected, they let the bouncer know that we were causing trouble, and none of us was surprised when the bouncer took the 2 gentlemen's word over ours and asked us to leave. As it turned out, one of aforementioned bartenders believed himself to be "the manager" of the place, so we decided the only thing left to do was, um, leave.

This sort of lashing out has no place in a public establishment.

Girls, stay away from this club.

The DJ really sings along! – Went late sept '06 on a friday and the cover charge was 8 bucks. The back room is really small but wasn't too crowded on this particular night. Show up early I guess. Oh yeah, bring ear plugs because the sheer volume of the music will most certainly provide you with some painful ear drum damage. It's really dark in there so you won't feel like a total nerd if you do wear them. And make sure you are somewhat fashion conscious before you go because there are a lot of jerks there that have nothing better to do than to make fun of what you wear (but that's nyc anyway). Where I'm from in the midwest if you talk bad about someone in a bar you'd better be ready to fight because you never know who's gonna snap. This isn't true in new york though. It's like middle school all over again. But anyway, go have fun and dance to some great 80s music!

Too small – This place is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too small. The music is too much like WPLJ's "80's at 8" and also like WPLJ's "Saturday night at the 80's." If I wanted top-40 80's I 'd stay home and listen to that or to my old WLIR/WDRE "Flashback lunch" tapes and to my LIR/DRE English Muffin tapes!! You can't even turn around in this club. There's no room to dance!!!! But the 5 dollar cover charge can't be beat!!!!!

Dance All Night! – You can dance all night and it's air conditioned and not crowded with 80s hipsters! There are all types of people here, a very diverse crowd which is how it should be. No attitude at the door. Just pay your $5 and dance! Forget New York Times write up hipster Luke and Leroys! If you have an article on you in the sunday styles section, how cool can you be.

An uncommonly dim and dusty place to dance until the light of day. – The Scene
This East Village institution has the well-meaning but standoffish charm reminiscent of an aging hipster. The muted silver walls in the back room look to be covered in a decade or so of dust, but the mirrors behind the front bar reflect well enough for preening. As one of the first in the area to welcome a gay crowd, the club enjoys a nice mix of persuasions.

The Draw
On the weekends, it's 30-something punk types dressed in oodles of black and sporting ample eyeliner who frequent this too-cool saloon. House and trance--and plenty of '80s on Friday nights--play on the back room's earsplitting sound system, while a multitude of colored lights pulse with the beat. True to its divey status, the bar serves beers like Rolling Rock and screwdrivers in tiny plastic cups, but it's the Red Bull that really seems to get people going.

Hit or Miss 1984 Fridays – I've gone to 1984 (Friday 80s party) a couple times a year for a long, long time. I've found that the music is hit or miss. I've been present when it is on the mark...non stop dancing - tons of fun. But other times, ugh. This last time sucked...the music selection was amatuerish. Who REALLY wants to dance to "Ghostbusters"? There were too many songs that cleared the dance floor... was this a ploy to drive people to the bar?
