For Smoker's Only – I had not been to El Myr in a long time, so I was surprised that it is now a completely smoking restaurant. Normally, I would have left immediately, but we were meeting friends. The restaurant has delicious guacamole, hot salsa, and good cheese dip. We ordered a pitcher of Texas margaritas (with Cuervo tequila added) for only $21. Good, strong margaritas. We had to leave when one of our friends showed up with her child--children are not permitted due to the all-smoking policy. If part of the restaurant was non-smoking, I would definitely be back. But, I will never go there again.
The Zeitgeist of Atlanta – not only the "spirit" of Atlanta, but also the counterpart to San Francisco's famous bike-messenger metal bar! but only Elmyr can claim native sons Mastodon among its dedicated fans...
delicious – I love el myr. The food is consistently awesome (i ALWAYS get the fish tacos...they're irresistable). You HAVE to try the cheese dip if it's "in season". The service is a little slack, but friendly. It doesn't bother me though. It's an excuse to sit there and chill. Just don't plan on dining in if you're in a hurry. Another bonus - they have Woodchuck Pear Cider on tap.
Not Just for Breakfast Anymore – If you're lucky---really, really lucky---you can catch the Virgin Mary here leaning over the bar, negotiating a succulent green burrito and washing it down with a margarita. But she will not have necessarily come for the food---which is modestly delicious and cheap---but for the atmosphere. The drink. The juke box. And the crowd, which El Myr has justly inherited from the ghosts of Atlanta's recent past: the Stein Club, the Point, Tortillas. My heart may be in Dixie, but my @ss is at El Myr.
Good Stuff – The steak tacos here are the best. A little overpriced on the tequila though, but still worth a stop. I visit often.
Funky burrito lounge – Lounge is the word for this psychadelic burrito joint with Van Gogh paintings on the brick walls. Burritos are natural - not too greasy - making El Myr a good fit for the hippy, organic, intellectual scene. Great, strong margueritas.
Heaven in a tortilla – Ok, it's not quite heaven in a tortilla, but there's something about El Myr that separates it from other intown burrito joints. The screened-in porch offers a divine spot to chow down on a burrito--you can't go wrong with one of El Myr's choices OR by making one of your own--and chill with your friends. The service is slack in a friendly way, nothing to get upset about. I like coming here before catching a show at the Variety Playhouse.
