Located on the second floor of the Warner Bros. Stage 16 Restaurant, the Velvet Lounge is an undiscovered gem of a space..
The Vibe
Subdued, comfy, and casually upscale, The Velvet Lounge feels like you're hanging out at a super-rich friend's high-rise suite, and he's just suggested everyone retire to the patio for cocktails. Plush couches and chairs, laden with thick pillows, are arranged on the inside and outside, with more intimate, candle-lit niches tucked away in the nooks and crannies. Convincingly done up in a bohemian warehouse theme, it's the kind of place that makes you stretch out, lower your voice and just "be."
The Drinks
The small bar serves up an impressive menu of martinis and other mixed drinks, like a spicy Bloody Mary that's made with the veteran in mind. Cocktails hover around ten dollars; bottled imports such as Amstel Light are available for the faint of liver.
The View
The patio area is a vaguely colonial arcade (think breezes blowing around gauzy curtains), with little alcoves that offer excellent views of the central Strip, perfect for one of those broody, gawd-what-am-I-doing-in-Las-Vegas movie moments.
What Happened?????. My Vegas weekend nights always started at the Velvet Lounge... but I may have to re-think my plans. It's still a great place to start the evening, usually not very busy, mellow progressive/trance tunes, great outdoor patio overlooking the volcano at the Mirage, and nice comfy seats. The crowd used to be MUCH more fun, but the last few times I've tried it, I've left dissapointed. Still the perfect start/end the night option with a date, but you better bring sand to the beach as you will find none here.
wonderful ambiance.
When I was visiting relatives in Vegas, my cousins took my sister and me to the Velvet Lounge. While it wasn't a busy night for a lounge, the doorman was very friendly and directed us to the lounge area. I loved the decor and the comfortable feeling I had while seated at one of the plush sofas.
The view of the Strip from the balcony was exhilerating! I hope to return to the Velvet Lounge soon. The only drawback was the somewhat pricey drinks, but the staff was friendly.
