This serene expanse of green offers a variety of activities in the heart of the city. – In Short
The crown jewel of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, this pastoral oasis stretches across more than 320 acres. Contained within its boundaries are the Denver Zoo, the Colorado Museum of Natural History, an Imax theater, Gates Planetarium and other attractions. Besides areas for golf, tennis, horseshoes, baseball, football and soccer, the park offers lush landscaping, a formal rose garden, picnic areas and playgrounds. A pavilion built in 1896 is located next to Ferril Lake.
Free Activities – We (Grandma and three boys) were on our way to the Museum of Nature for the day. Before we got to the door, a flock of ducks swarmed and entertained us for an hour, eating cookies from our hands. Then the boys spotted a beautiful display of fountains. The next thing I knew, there were three boys joining a group of kids running through the fountains, stripping down to shorts, cooling off in the heat, trying to guess where water would shoot up next, having the time of their lives! We spent most of our day OUTSIDE the museum, in the fountains! On our next trip, we will take a picnic and spend a full day just playing in the park--it is great, free entertainment. We loved it.
