Huntington Beach is fine – All beaches along the lake from Lorain County to Ashtabula have water run off problems, Huntington is no different. They test the water and post water quality reports. Use common sense, if it storms don't go to ANY beach in the Cleveland area because of the problems.

I have gone several times with my children ages 3-7 and they have had fun playing at the water's edge. There are teenagers and some odd people but there are just as many families too. I can't tell you how many little kids my own kids played with and shared buckets and sand shovels with.

I guess it all depends on where you go into the water. Where we go the water is shallow for many yards. My 7 year old went out about 20 yards (almost the length of an out door pool) and it was only between his knees and waist.

I have not heard any loud music the times I have been there and lots of people brought coolers with drinks and snacks. Now we usually park our stuff near a guard stand so this may be the reason there is not a lot of noise or craziness.

One of the biggest bummers are that the steps up and down to the beach are steep and long. Going up and down them will wear you out. Carrying little kids up and down them wears you out. Also whatever you bring down in a pack (coolers, towels, mats, toys, etc.) you have to carry back up those long steep stairs.

The other problem I have with the beach is there are no outdoor showers to just wash the sand off. It would be so nice if there were several faucets and open showers up by the parking lot so you can rinse the sand off you before you get in the car. I realize this is North East Ohio and outdoor showers sounds odd but they can be easily turned off at the end of the season.

Pretty Average – There are several problems with Huntington Beach

1) You are not able to swim safely due to bacteria levels after a heavy rain. The sewer systems overflow into the lake.

1.5) You really need to be a good swimmer to go into the water--- it goes to four feet pretty quickly. Not really great for toddlers especially when there are waves.

2) Often dead things wash up on shore, I was there and a big dead pig washed up traumatizing my children.

3) You cannot bring any type of "float-y " into the water, including floats to hold baby ( they are afraid you will float out to the main part of the lake)

4) It used to be a nice neighborhood beach for families just a few years ago but now many teenager---young adults from cleveland come out with loud music and vulgar language--not cool for the little kids.

5) you cannot eat on the beach ( or bring any containers ) which requires you to lug your stuff up and down two flights of steep concrete stairs to eat and then you have to take it to your car and then back down to swim.

6) I will say there is a horse mounted police presence for serious situations and they arrive fairly fast. I one time saw a fight between two really trashy women and the cop broke it up within minutes.

7) The cops do nothing about the noise, trash, and general vulgar stuff from the teenagers.

A few good things

1) Its close!

2) Sometimes the water is clean---and clear

3) The ice cream hut is pretty awesome, they have a graham cracker ice cream that sounds gross but is delicious.

4) The woods are really close for a walk and so is crocker park for shopping.

a fun friendly places to visit – We just wanted to have a picnic and enjoy the day> We swam and laided in the sun and had lunch. It was nice and watch different people as they were also enjoying the park.

Thank you for keeping it clean and safe.

As recently as the mid-1990s, Huntington Beach was the secret, sandy jewel of the affluent West Side. – The Skinny
An automatic excursion for families in the Bay, Westlake and Rocky River communities, Huntington Beach exists as a near-mythical setting for sun-baked East Side boys, encouraged to journey west by tantalizing stories of a small beach in Bay overrun by legions of rich teenage girls.

The Scene
The beach sits low on Lake Erie, and is linked to the rest of the Metroparks Huntington Reservation by steep steps that run up to an attractive wooded area, perfect for short hikes and relaxing, romantic strolls. There are sheltered picnic areas and shady scenic overlooks, great for when the UV rays finally break up your sun worshiping. West Side "wheelers" like the fact that the recreational area connects with the Bay Village Bike Trail.

Visitation to state-park beaches has dropped 20 percent over the past five years, and Huntington seems to have lost a little luster itself. But an intimate setting and prevailing family vibe keeps this shorestop at the top of the area's beaches.

Groovy Place – Great place to come, relax and people watch. Don't forget to stop at Honey Hut for the best ice cream around. They also have pizza, nachos...Enjoy the gorgeous view!
