Not trustworthy – I made a reservation at The Villa and received confirmation via email. Later I received a call saying that they had double booked the room and I could not have it. I was disappointed, but said ok and that I would find another place to stay. Fast forward to this morning, when I check my bank account and find that they had charged me for the room I had never stayed in, that in fact I never had the opportunity to stay in because they had screwed up the reservations. I just called them to make arrangements for a refund (plus, hopefully, the overdraft charges they caused me). I am awaiting their return call.
The place looks lovely, but it seems to me that if they can't get a reservation request correct, and if they charge people for a room, even after it has been canceled over a month in advance, they are not a trustworthy establishment.
***UPDATE: I just heard back from them. The woman who I talked to before (the owner) called me back. She was the woman I originally talked to, who told me the room I reserved was not available, and who was supposed to cancel the reservation. She had no memory of any of it, and was argumentative with me. They are crediting my account, but they are definitely not reliable.
The original call back was not from the owner but a staff member. Thus the owner would not remember. Sometimes mistakes are made in bookings because one person calls on the phone and the booking is entered into the softwhere right then and then the e-mail booking comes in second. When one cancels a room one should always ask for a written confirmation either via e-mail or in the mail to be sure that it has been understood correctly. It helps to alleviate mistakes and problems. "No Shows" are always charged for the first nights stay. The owner was not trying to be argumentative on the last return phone but the customer was understandbly angry because of the situation and the account was credited immediatley. This happens rarely and The Villa staff apologises for any part they played in the misunderstanding.
An Italianate villa in low-key Tacoma. – The Scene
This large Mediterranean-style mansion looks as if it has been lifted straight from the pages of a guidebook on Italy. The elegant 1925 inn is popular with leisure travelers, businesspeople and parents of students attending the nearby University of Puget Sound. While the setting is refined, the service is friendly and casual.
Each of the six rooms is generous in size, but antique furnishings and accents make them feel cozy and intimate. All have individual verandas, gas fireplaces and private baths. Those doing business on the road appreciate the two in-room phone lines. While the accommodations here are impressive, The Ravello is particularly notable. It is located in the former maid's quarters on the third floor and features a gas fireplace that can be manipulated from the bed, a claw-foot tub for two and eye-popping views of Puget Sound.
