Worst Service EVER – First, I am from Japan. I know what real Japanese customer service and Shishi is like. When I and my friend went there to try all you can eat for $20, it was a terrible experience ever. I tried to order them in Japanese so that I thought they would be easy on us in the beginning, but the waitress give me such a dirty look and sighted. I have never seen such a rude waitress, EVER... And she almost threw the paper at me and told us to write the number of sushi we want. So, Okay, I wrote them down in Japanese number. And second she came again and told me this is not the way to write a number... hello, is there any instruction there? Honestly, I did not want to leave any tip on her.
Sushi is eatable, but not fresh at all. The quality of rolls were totally different on second time we ordered the same one. Even if Sushi is all you can eat, I would not want to come back there.
Hard to beat AYCE sushi – My rule of thumb for Japanese restaurants... if it's Japanese-owned and if the chefs are Japanese, you can't go wrong. For the price, it's a good value. Doesn't come close to places like Nobu, of course, but you're getting what you pay for. The service is sometimes a bit weak since it does tend to get packed. I've been going here for 2 years and the only time I was disappointed was recently when they doubled my order when I was going to order different sushi for the 2nd round. But overall it's reliable. Never got sick here, and the rice is not excessive, so you can eat plenty of fish.
never again – My hubby and I've been dining at Kinoko since '99. We loved Kinoko at first, but now we're so disappointed in their quality and their way of "cheating" the customers. We went recently with our preschoolers and it was the most awful experience at the restaurant and afterwards. Some of the fish they were using were not fresh at all and our whole family got sick afterwards. Even our kids got sick after having a little bit of their egg custard (tamago). These are the ways they cheat their customers: if you're having AYCE, they serve good quality fish the first time around (with prepared sushi rice and the fish/rice quality is good. But from the second time and on, they serve less fresh fish with warm rice (we actually had sushi with hot rice this time) and the ratio of course changes to way MORE rice than before. I've seen this pattern before but it didn't bother us that much until we got really sick this time around and am NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN. Plus they just hired this new waiter there and he was so rude. He actually gave us a dirty look when we ordered third time around. And we actually overheard him telling the chefs to take time and we had to wait 15 minutes until we got our next order. They have no problem charging now $21+ for AYCE sushi but would give the customers a hard time when you want to eat AYCE. I don't understand their logic.
WORST Service for less than MEDIOCHRE Sushi – It took over a half hour before I even had any thing to drink, not even a water, and I got my sushi 45 min before anyone else at the table got anything to eat. And my miso soup came 20 min after my sushi came.
Our server, at times, after being asked 3 or more times for my drink ( a can of diet coke and a glass of ice. really difficult ) , I saw him leaning up against the server station like he had nothing to do.
After 40 min and still no sushi for my friends, and not even a drink yet...we heard yelling at the other end of the restaurant, and it was a table of people with the manager and the SAME server who was getting yelled at by the customers at THAT table. Needless to say, it was ANOTHER 15 min until a DIFFERENT server finally brought me a drink.
I will NEVER go back there. I wouldn't suggest anyone else go there either. Not even an apology to us from any of the staff there.
Excellent Sushi Selection – My friend Fill Mijareson took me to this place and I have to admit it's certainly one of the better sushi restaurants in the city. The wide selection and specialty rolls made me not want to leave. Generous portions also added to this great experience. Fill ate waaaaaaaaaay too much (or was it the Kirin?). The point is they keep making them as long as you can put them down. They do not discourage the customer from ordering anything or even how often. Only downside is they do not allow for too much substitution and the service isn't exactly prompt. At least Fill got the waitress' digits! Way to go man!
Worst Restaurant Experience Ever!!! – If you truly want a bad restaurant experience then by all means go here. Last Saturday, my girlfriends and I went to Kiniko's for all-you-can-eat sushi. When we proceeded to order our food, the waitress interrupted and told us that maybe we had ordered enough for now. When we placed out second order, it took about 45 minutes for it to come.
When our first order came, they forgot the torro (which we later learned it was finished for the night. But on other occasions when my roommate visited this place they were also out of torro - just something to add to the list). The rolls (spicy tuna and salmon) were coated in a layer of rice that was obscene. When we complained that they tasted funny, the waitress didn't believe us. She said they received no complaints from other customers. We asked to see the manager. At first they wanted to ignore us and then finally when we kept glancing at the waitress, he came to our table. He was horrible. He basically told us that we were making trouble. He insisted that the rolls were fine. We told him the tuna and salmon were cooked b/c they were wrapped it in hot rice. To prove to us that he was right, he ate a piece of the roll and made a scene in front of our table. He kept on shaking his head and giving us nasty looks, muttering how unbelievable we were during the rest of our meal.
Needless to say we lost our appetite. To top it off, they charged us a 15% service charge for 3 people. No where on the menu that we received did it say that.
Hurt from too much sushi! – And you're hungry a few hours later. Seriously, this is the best all you can eat in town- As everyone says, the Spicy Tuna hand rolls are the best- have 4 of these, and you've broken even.
I've rarely had a problem with slow staff in the 10 years I've been going.
Stay away from the two "specialty rolls" on the menu, though- too much avocado and rice will fill you up right quick.
Best Deal Period. – The all you can eat deal is truly amazing here. $20 gets you unlimited sushi of a very high quality- I even took a friend here from Japan who said it was one of the best sushi places in the US that he has been to. Highly recommended is the Spicy Fried Clam Rolls and Spider Rolls. Everything is delicious, though, my gf and I come here once a week sometimes- you will get addicted! It is a small restuarant so go early and it will be nice and quiet- go late and it will be packed!
Super Sushi! – This place has realy fresh sushi and a nice large menu of Japanese classic cuisine.
This big draw is the all you can sushi here for $19.95! The catch is that you are charged extra for ANYTHING that you leave on your plate so don't be a greedy pig! Otherwise, this place has great service and prices and a nice friendly atmosphere.
Definitely will be back!
Great Value! – We come from New Jersey to eat at Kinoko. Not the greatest sushi place, but excellent for a $19.95 all you can eat. The spicy tuna and salmon are the best we've ever had. Service can be tediously slow and inattentive when busy. Parking stinks.
