Avoid if you can – Bad food, bad service, bad environment. Now that I think of it, bad everything about this place. The way this food is served, its as if its for a pig eating out of a trough. The main course along with the side dishes like rice and beans are all combined together on one plate so you end up getting a soup. The salad tastes likes it wasn't cleaned before it was served. It tasted as if there were grains of sand mixed together with the salad. Wines are way overpriced and they don't even have a good selection. They don't accept credit cards and the staff just doesn't seem to care much. Bathrooms are atrocious. If one decides to venture inside, better off wearing a hazmat suit. Overall poor experience.
What decadence looks like – I've been eating there for years. I used to enjoy great paellas, steaks, etc. No more. Like any other place in Astoria, the parking is a nightmare. When you get greated at the door, they immediately remind you of the early closing hours, and the fact that they dont accept credit cards. Food took forever, and to top it off, wasn't worth the wait. My Paella Marinera was 40% peas and carrots, lots of Chicken, very little shell fish, and the rice tasted old. My wife's fish wasn't any better. It will be a LONG time before we try them again.
Good Food Decent Price – Great ambiance, great drinks, good food in generous portions, what more can you ask for? All I would say is that you should come early because they don't take reservations. I had about an hour of a wait which I didn't even mind because I hung out at the bar and had some great drinks. Overall a class act.
Best Colombian food EVER!! – I first ate there in 2004 where I meet my now b/f and every year we contiune to go there. The Food is unbelieveable and I live in the city in uptown and there are spanish food every corner, it's nothing compare to Tierras Colombianas the grill chicken is the best thing on the menus my b/f had the fish which he also loved. It has a confortable hemsphire. Yes the service is fast and it's very inexpensive. I do however, do NOT recommend the breads it's hard and it's not worth spending the money, beside your food is big enough without bread.. I RECOMMEND THE GRILL CHICKEN IF YOU ARE TRY TO WATCH WHAT YOU EAT!!!
Good food... decent service – My boyfriend says the grilled chicken breast is the best he has ever had. I've been going to Tierras for a couple years... they've become more consistent however sometimes the beans are better than other days. I've gotten the fried snapper... very good... the camarones al ajillo... very good - though better the first time.... pork chops - mediocre... grilled chicken - excellent... fried chicken - flavorless...
I say go here... if you find something you like... it'll be really good... I'd go back for the grilled chicken and fish! And I've had their lentil soup once... excellent... but as I said about consistency... I haven't tried it again. Their grilled chicken though.. is always good.
Thursdays through the weekend.. they do get busy. Don't expect any bread w/ butter to start with... unless you want to pay.. and if you decide to.. you are warned... it will be HARDER THAN A ROCK... This is my big complaint. Latino restaurants I've been to always offer something carb rich to start... this place doesn't...
Great Food, Great Price! – Consistently good food and always fast service! Go with an appetite because the dishes are big enough for two. The 'Bandeja Campesina' is worth the subway trip from Manhattan. Sunday afternoons are always bustling but the service is fast and friendly.
FANTASTIC COLOMBIAN FOOD - A MUST TRY!!! – We go to Tierras Colombianas every few weeks and the food is consistenly delicious. The portions are great for the price and the svc is always fast and friendly. If you live in L.I.C./Astoria area, you must try this spot, and if you live in the city, you must take the N/W to try it. It's worth the trip!
Recommended restaurant – They have a large variety and food is like home made. It seems like it is traditional Colombian food.
The only problem is that they don't accept credit cards (there is an atm inside but they charge a fee).
The decoration could have been nicer, it looks like a diner.
Good Latino Food – I've been going to Tierras Colombianas in Roosevelt and in Astoria since I was a little girl and love the food. Huge portions, delicious food and cheap. So much better than the so-called Latino restaurants in Manhattan.
Great food, if you get the right thing – The first time I came here, I was overwhelmed by the menu so I asked the waitress what she recommended. She suggested something, a steak-type dish, and it came. I ate one bite, hated it, and asked if I could have something else. I don't know why, but she wouldn't be accomodating. She said they couldn't do that. So I had to spend a lot of money eating just rice and beans and the little salad that came with the gross steak. However, I did come back again with some friends and this time I ordered a chicken dish that was amazing. The portions are huge, and the lines are long.
