vandalism – Just as with many parks in this city, it is not safe to leave valuables in your vehicle. There is no guarantee that your vehicle won't be damaged while you visit. This can be a very costly and time consuming to remedy.
Although the natural side of the park itself has a nice setting with the pool surrounded by cypress and sprawling oak trees, returning to a broken window can wreck your week and require several paychecks to recover. There is also trash thrown everywhere around the park even with the many trash cans provided.
The oldest park in San Antonio, and after Boston Common, the oldest in America. – The Skinny
Since the Spanish government first reserved the land for public use in the 18th century, San Pedro Park has undergone lots of facelifts. Most recently, the city of San Antonio designated $4.5 million to refurbish the spring-fed swimming hole, construct a new playground and improve landscaping.
Just a skip away from downtown, this history-rich park promises San Antonio urbanites a cool respite from summer heat at the newly improved pool, open from May to September. The park also boasts the McFarlin Tennis Center with more than 20 courts, paved trails for strolling, plenty of picnic tables and its own public library (San Pedro Library). So if splashing around isn't your thing, you can opt for a sophisticated stroll through the manicured gardens or some heavy reading on a bench.
