More than a park--a cool cultural destination.
The site of the 1968 World's Fair is truly an oasis in the heart of downtown. Don't expect green space, but do enjoy the acres of water fountains and waterfalls, which cool the otherwise concrete-heavy area. An impressive extension of the Riverwalk, meant to connect to the Convention Center, now makes it possible to reach the park without really leaving the river for long.
Families may be drawn to the park for the Tower of the Americas and the Institute of Texan Culture--both also features of the World's Fair. There is also a modern playground where children weary of history and culture can expend some energy. The HemisFair Park is also home to the only branch of the University of Mexico outside of that country, and to the Mexican Cultural Institute.
