Reviews for Cactus Cafe

Cactus Cafe is housed inside a red velvet curtained, low-lit room inside UT's Student Union building, and hosts some of the best musicians you've never heard of on their stage. Then again, maybe you have -- hello, Townes Van Zandt! Good to see you, Dixie Chicks! -- but the cocktail tabled, smal jazz club set-up of this place makes every act you see feel like your own personal discovery.

A fantastic venue for a small show. The acoustics are perfect and the Cactus Cafe has a nostalgic feel about it. The drinks were reasonable and the service was not bad at all. The best thing about this venue is the intimacy you feel. It feels almost like the show is in your front room with a small gathering of friends. If you want to really experience music- try a show at the Cactus Cafe.

Intimate, nonsmoking venue features talented songwriters and acoustic musicians from Austin and across the country. – In Short
Open since 1975, people go for amazing music with hopes of catching the next Nanci Griffith or Robert Earl Keen (frequent past guests) grace the stage. The bar serves everything from coffee to vodka tonics and ordering drinks barely disrupts the quiet atmosphere since the stage is on the opposite end of the cafe. Laid-back Cactus attendees are serious music fans and rarely raise their voices above whispers during performances.

best cliente – If you want to see the best of folksy songsters they have ALL played and continue to play there. Makes me proud I'm a country boy born in Austin when that's all there was. Even ol dylan played those parts in early 60's alone again naturually.

small, intimate venue – A great place to check lesser-known perfomers and up-and-coming artists. Great acoustics and location.

They\'re Not Armadillo World Headquarters, but they\'re Pretty Close Places to feel like a true blue, old school Austin music lover.
