Disappointed – I have been an Elizabeth's patron for several years and have always looked forward to brunch there. My most recent visit, however, was most disappointing and was likely my last.
It was my wife's birthday, and we were having brunch with my daughter. When we arrived, we were told that the wait was 45 min. to an hr. The meal began with cold (tepid) coffee which was repeated with each refill. I ordered "Oysters Florentine", which arrived with NO OYSTERS. My daughters eggs benedict had NO HOLLANDAISE SAUCE. There were no biscuits or toast with any order; however, the check was more than complete ... $90 including mimosas and tip for three people. The food quality has declined markedly in the past year and is worth neither the wait or the price. NEVER AGAIN!
Bywater breakfast at its best – Elizabeth's is surely a place to visit for breakfast in Bywater, especially on the weekends. But make sure you arrive early, otherwise you will be "forced" to go upstairs and drinks a couple of mimosas or bloody mary's. Torture in the nth degree. Anyway, not known by most, but known by those in the know, so go early and enjoy!
WOW! – This is my first post here.
Elizabeth's doesn't look like much inside or outside, but, the Fried Chicken made up for that. Be there when they first open at 6:00, and you might have the whole place to yourself.
talk about good – ate breakfast there, it was great.
the mimosa's were perfect.
the crab cakes with poached eggs were fantastic
others at the table raved also.
neighborhood feel, very casual....it's all about the food.
we will go back.
um-good – very, very long wait for the best breakfast in New Orleans....only place in town that has a grasp on how to make home fried potatoes....wonderful omelet....very nice people....slow but very good cook....
Fabulous Brunch – Went there several years ago during the Jazz Festival. It is now on our list of can't miss spots whenever we go to New Orleans. The Waffles are unbelievable, warm, with fresh fruit and homemade whipped cream. My husband loves the spicy sausages and egg dishes that are served. The interior is really fun, and the serving staff is warm and friendly. We haven't made it for dinner yet, but hope to on our next trip.
Favorite Lunch Spot – I'm a local and Elizabeth's is one of my favorite places to eat lunch. They have daily specials that change from week to week. All of the desserts are made in-house. This restaurant has a wonderful neighborhood feel.
Great Find! – 8 of us showed up at 10:30 on Saturday morning, put our name on the board and were seated within 30 minutes. The wait staff was charming, knowledgable and very good. Loved the stuffed oysters and the gumbo was very good. The desserts looked great but we were STUFFED by that point. A very affordable and delicious experience - we'll be back.
Homey joint that delivers on its promise of "good food done real good." – The Scene
A simple white-frame building in the Bywater, Elizabeth's doesn't look like much from the outside; but inside, a hard-working kitchen cooks up huge portions to be enjoyed in the restaurant's modest surroundings.
The one-page menu includes po'boys, salads, gumbo and fried chicken. The components of the Loula May breakfast po'boy--an early morning leviathan featuring scrambled eggs, cheese, Italian sausage, lettuce, tomato and mayo layered on a foot of French bread--mix wonderfully in every bite. Duck hash, chopped duck meat sauteed with onions and green pepper, is accompanied by a generous side of sweet potato home fries. Eggs Elizabeth slightly alters traditional eggs Benedict: poached eggs, shaved ham and hollandaise sauce served on grilled French bread. Rich and substantial apple crepes are filled with sweet stewed apples, cream cheese and toasted pecans and served with cinnamon-spiked custard.
Down Home Done Good – A very popular place for locals. It's unassuming but once you're seated be prepared for some of the best and most filling entrees east of the FQ. I had South Carolina quail in a tasso, leek and thyme gravy. I felt like a fat, happy cat when I was through. And I now totally understand the sign at the cash register---"You want SECONDS?!"
