Another trendy Houston let down – If you are looking for authentic, traditional sushi and sashimi, your search will certainly not end here. Instead, add Rickshaw to your already long list of over-loud, over-priced, trendy Houston sushi dives trying really hard to be hip, think MTV Sushi. If being seen in your new obnoxiously over-sized sunglasses and designer jeans matters more than eating good food than this spot is for you. Now for the food: in the miso soup was to be found spinach, carrots, and a large mussel all served in a bowl that looks like an ostrich egg cut in half at an odd angle. Not a trace of tofu or nori in that one. The assorted sashimi resembled Lego blocks whose shape and size destroyed any textural enjoyment and were completely lacking in flavor. The sushi rolls were loose and as a result difficult to handle. I myself had one piece completely fall apart during its brief journey from plate to mouth. The spicy tuna hand roll could have been certified stomach ulcer safe as it was necessary to add additional wasabi to it in order for it to qualify as even slightly spicy. As the portions were small, we had to order an additional roll, which provided us the lone bright spot for our meal. Having not been overly impressed with the meal we had selected, we decided to ask our server for her best suggestion. Her recommendation, a salmon avocado roll that wasn't even on the menu, go figure. The roll was good, but certainly nothing to have us shell out another $80. We drank 3 beers total so don't think our high bill was due to alcohol. Be warned, as for us, our search for good sushi and sashimi in Houston continues.

Modern/Upscale sushi restaurant and bar – This place is great for the young hip crowd. I would highly recommend going early because wait times on a Friday can be long. The Vegas and Monkey roll are great. The service is prompt and courteous. Great ambiance makes this a place to hang around in after dinner. Valet is available and recommended. I have been to many sushi restaurants and this hands down is the best sushi restaurant in the Houston area.

One of the best hip places in the area – My girlfriends and I decided to go there for Valentine's day. It was a last minute thing since our initial reservation at this place was canceled. When we got there, we thought we went to the wrong address. The place didn't look very appealing from the outside, yet once the door was opened, we all went WOW. We were seated within few minutes and to our surprise there were many single people around so we didn't feel weird.

We ordered some appetizers which were amazing. The best lettuce wraps I ever had were served there. One note though, they brought our main dish way too fast when we didn't finish our appetizers. I advice people wait to order their main dish after they are done with the appetizers.

The music was amazing and after dinner we went and sat at the lounge. Prices are not high and actually very reasonable for such a place.

Hot Spot – Nice variety for everyone to find something they like. I am not a sushi fan but went with a group of people that are. I had the manderin beef which was great. The other 3 people ordered a fewe different kinds of sushi and shared. The only problem is the tables are crammed together you are almost sitting on the person behind you. The parking is horrible

Rediscovered Favorite – I just stepped into Rickshaw lately with a friend for lunch and I must note all the changes. First of all, the management finally listened! We were pleased to find a value lunch menu in addition to all our sushi favorites. I was curious and tried the Red Curry Salmon entree while my friend stayed with sushi. It was so much food. It came with soup, salad and assorted hors d'oeuvres that the staff told me changes daily. The salmon was very tasty with the right amount of spice. I work in the Upper Kirby area so I'm very excited that there's something new and affordable (9.95 for mine) for lunch! I will be coming back to try all the other items that sounded so good.

It was just ok..... – If you are looking for a good sushi restaurant, this isn't it. If you are looking for ambiance and pretty drinks, this is the place for you! The sushi was ok, nothing spectacular. The drinks were good (we had Mohitos all night). It is pricey for what you get but if you are just going out for a night on the town, it's ok. We had good service.

Pan-Asian bistro with standout sushi and a bustling lounge scene. – The Scene
A young, hip crowd frequents this spot, so expect the scene to come alive late at night. Dim lighting and thumping house music from adjacent Bambu Lounge fills the room. Decor is crisp and modern. High-backed booths provide a cozy nook while the sushi bar hums with activity.

The Food
An expansive menu calls forth the flavors of China, Thailand and Japan. Tuna tataki starter is a must: Ginger-crusted tuna over plantains topped with tuna tartar and wasabi cream. Sesame-battered chicken is a crunchy treat, as is silky miso bass with blackberry reduction and purple mashed potatoes. Skillfully prepared sushi includes nigiri, sashimi and combos. Rolls get creative with vegetable tempura Cleverley Roll, CCM (spicy salmon, crispy wonton and avocado-shrimp puree), and the Bill and Cissy (cucumber skin with spicy tuna, grilled jalapeno, salmon and basil). Desserts are inspired: Try the banana-walnut egg roll with ice cream and peach caramel sauce.

Gotta try it... – The food is delicious here. My fav is the Rickshaw Crunch roll (spicy yellowtail and crunchy noodle rolled up and wrapped with avocado and tuna). The service could be better. The waitstaff could be more attentive. One time, we had a waiter that was speeding back and forth to the kitchen and kept bumping into tables. We were convinced he was on something. Overall, it's a place one should experience

Best Salmon Anywhere, Ever! – I'm from Atlanta and travel a lot and I'm always looking for the best sushi (salmon especially) in every city. I stopped by Rickshaw for a takeout lunch and was extremely happy with my order. Sooo much better than Nobu and Morimoto! Tasty and creative rolls too. Only problem was the hostess...a bit rude and didn't have a clue about the menu. Each sashimi order is 6 pieces, not 2 like she told me. (They don't tell you how many pieces on the menu). When I commented that it was a bit pricey for 2 pieces, she snidely said, "Well, we're not cheap." Well, having gone to Nobu, I'm no stranger to expensive sushi. So, I was relieved when I found more than 2 pieces, which makes this place a great value for the DELICIOUS sushi they serve. If you haven't gone here, try it ASAP!
