Love Going to South Side – I have been there twice and I can never seem to hit every store! This is the best place to go in Pittsburgh! If you start at Station Square and walk from there, you'll see everything on the main street and avoid all the traffic of driving.
For your best bet, if you are not from pittsburgh and have a friend from there. Have them take you around. That's what I did and was a blast!
By far the most eclectic shopping district in the city. – The Scene
Expect vintage clothing rather than high-end fashions, as well as used bookstores, piercing/tattoo parlors and specialty CD shops. Especially colorful at night when most stores are closed, the South Side attracts a large, lively crowd to its many restaurants and bars.
The South Side is restaurant central with everything from delis, a diner and the Original Hot Dog to fine establishments that can be expensive or easy on your pocketbook. Cafe Allegro and Le Pommier present award-winning French cuisine, while the Eastern European fare at Old Europe is less pricey. For a Spanish meal, Mallorca is noted for large portions. For shopping, start at the 10th Street Bridge and head away from Station Square on East Carson Street: Silver Eye Center for a contemporary photography exhibition; City Books and Eljay's Used Books offer great alternatives to the mega-chains; South Bank Galleries for memorabilia and antiques.
