Fresh-baked goods, fresh-brewed coffee and creative sandwiches served up in relaxed, roomy surroundings..
In Short
Bright colors and comfortable furniture give this chain cafe a laid-back feel, with scattered tables that beckon coffee-sipping readers, chatters and diners. All baked goods--bagels, muffins, two dozen kinds of bread--are made fresh on the premises. Sandwiches include turkey-artichoke panini and Asiago roast beef, plus standards like chicken salad and smoked turkey. Soups change daily, but popular choices like broccoli and cheese, chicken noodle and French onion are always on the menu.
Horrible Service. As a lover of carbs, I have frequently visited this (Murray Ave) and other (Center Ave, Forbes Ave, Blvd of the Allies) Panera locations for a quick meal. It's true, once you get your bagels, they're great (although somtimes horribly sliced), and Panera should be applauded for its recent vegetarian soup additions, BUT my recent experiences have left much to be desired. For example, sometimes on the way home from picking my boyfriend up from work in the morning, we would stop at the Centre Avenue Panera. We'd order 2 bagels, usually 2 different kinds of cream cheese, and sometimes a sweet snack. Clearly, the items purchased were for 2 people ...And they would put it all on ONE of those little plate-trays. Also, sometimes, they'd give us only one knife, or sometimes totally forget one alltogether! In addition, if you don't get cream cheese on your bagel and you want butter or margarine, you now have to ask for it, it is not set out for you to take, and usually, when you ask for the non-dairy spread, they give you butter. The service is not friendly, and they make you do everything (prepare your bagel, etc) and get everything (coffee, tea, drinks) yourself, which is a little annoying and SHOULD cost less, since the workers are doing VERY little. Like I said, I do love Panera's breads and foods, but the service (especially recently) is terrible. Bruegger's (there's a good one on Murray Ave, and one on S. Aiken) is much better for breakfast. They prepare it for you, are MUCH friendlier, and the prices are better.
Very enticing. Visited freinds in Florida and got to exprience a trip to Paneras. We were impressed by the variety and size of the bagels and pastries. Did not get to go back for lunch but the menu looked very appettising and resonable. Did sample some breads which were excellent as well. The coffee was great and so nice to have a variety to choose from. We are from Alaska and found Paneras a place we would cater to often if we had one.
