Overall great restaurant – Had reservations for 6 last night (Tuesday). We were seated promptly in a cozy, private alcove. When my mom made reservations, she told them it was my father's birthday, so they specially printed the menus for our table with a happy birthday message on them. The service was awesome from start to finish, by both the server and an assistant. As an example, my brother dropped his napkin on the floor twice, and both times the assistant stopped by and picked it up and replaced it with a fresh napkin. We ordered 3 courses (salad/soup, main course and dessert) and all were served with reasonable timing, and all hot. No complaints about any of the food. I started with a delicious beet and goat cheese salad. The salmon are running, so that was featured widely on their specials. I had a salmon saute with mushrooms and asparagus in a garlic cream sauce. It was EXCELLENT. And a chocolate pudding pie for dessert, which was dense and chocolately. I view this as a fairly high priced restaurant, so we usually only eat there on special occasions (at least once a year on my dad's birthday as he is a seafood fanatic), and we have never been dissapointed.
Food is great - Service is not – We had a reservation on saturday night. Many people were waiting for tables and there was nowhere to sit at the bar to wait in comfort. After over an hour, we finally got a table. The service was very slow. It was a very long, drawn out meal because of the slow service. We were constantly waiting forever for our waiter to get back to our table. I thought the fish was great, but I don't think I'll go back to try it again. I spoke with the management about it, and they apologized but did not make it up to me in any way. I asked if it was this busy every saturday and they said it was. Well, if they're so busy that they make people wait 1 hour for a table every weekend, maybe they shouldn't take so many reservations.
Wow! what a gem! – We loved it...........went out for a evening together and had a great time. Service and food was outstanding and would recommend it to everyone. While we where there we saw the $1.95 happy hour appetizers that looked more like dinner than apps. There was a private group happening in a seperate room and we enjoyed our own time at our table with out being disturbed. The server was awsome and the new drink menu was outstanding. We saved some room for the dessert and were not disppointed...I was told they have their own baker making the desserts daily...what a rarity in today's world!
Fresh seafood, from scratch cocktails, and great service......how can you go wrong!
Good seafood, busy, fairly loud crowd on a Friday night – Four of us went for a Christmas season dinner to enjoy some conversation and good seafood. This was our third visit to M & S, and we were quite happy with almost everything. The best thing on the table was the beet salad - a phenomenal salad, closely followed by a awesome bowl of clam chowder, and the scallop/risotto appetizer. Entrees we shared were the 1 1/4 # lobster - cooked just right, and the lobster/filet combo plate - both were just right, the filet melted in yor mouth. The stuffed salmon selection was simply wonderful. The least satisfying entre was the proscuitto-wrapped scallop dish. The sauce was nice and spicy as advertized, but the prosciutto and sauce were too salty and overpowered the flavor of the scallops - bummer.
Our waiter was great, he recommended a nice bottle of wine, and the desserts were good but not exceptional. We'll be back, and can recommend M&S to friends and other diners looking for good seafood downtown Minneapolis.
Did I mention the $2 appetizers on the happy hour menu - and not your regular bar food snacks, either!
Excellent – The clam chowder here is absolute heaven! Actually, this whole place is amazing, I kept coming back over and over the week I was in town, and this place did not let me down. The blue cheese crusted halibut was amazing! Please eat here, it is soooo worth it.
Excellent seafood – Very large selection of fresh seafood. Nice atmosphere, relaxed at the bar while we waited a short while for our table. Service was excellent, very courteous and attentive. Had a stuffed sole which was good, ended up taking some home because of the amount of food. Parked in the ramp around the corner. Not cheap but felt that for what you get it really isn't much more than what you could pay at a chain restaurant either.
Mixed experience and food – Took the family here on a Saturday night. They gave us one of their semi-private booths; would have been great for business, but not so good for a family outing. Food was generally very good; two non-seafood lovers actually loved their seafood orders. Service was slow; it felt like our waiter had too many tables -- or just kept forgetting us. Still, all in all, this is a nice choice for dinner in downtown Mpls -- we'd return (and have!).
Great for Groups – I had never been to McCormick's before, but decided to go for my birthday. They easily accomidated all 14 of us, and even had menus printed that said "Happy Birthday" on them. Hands down, it was one of the best meals of my life. We had goat cheese bruschetta, clam chowder, crab cakes, salmon stuffed with brie and crab, sea scallops, tiger shrimp pasta...everyone LOVED their meal. Service was very prompt, knowledgable and courteous. They have everything from a good wine selection to great mojitos and cheap beer. For what you get, it's also very affordable, it can be as expensive as you make it. Highly recommended all-around!
never going back and telling everyone i know – The food is mediocre - bottom line. For seafood?- Oceanairre. (even though I don't like chains) I'm here to vent about the manager. I've been here before but stopped by, because it was close, on July 4th when no other place was open to celebrate my birthday. Long story short. I ordered a glass of wine....oops, I forgot my I.D. I'm 33, I look young. I was with my parents they tried to vouch for me. I knew it wouldn't happen but they tried. The manager came out and said he looks young and is 33 as well. "Sorry we can't help you, enjoy your meal. Happy Birthday!" He quickly turned around and walked away. Not only was he flip, he was also in a hurry on a very slow day. To be short and snippy with me is fine, but to treat my parents that way was another story. We left, paid the tab and tipped the waiter and went home and grilled some steaks. The experience was sour. I'm never going back, not even for a drink or a "power lunch". A tip for the manager - Treat people with respect. You are in the service industry, right? I dine out frequently, this place is last on my list.
Great Customer Service – For my birthday, my friends and I decided to try something different. We gathered a list of restaurants downtown, put them in a hat, and I chose which one we would be going to. I am so glad I chose this restaurant! The reviews weren't great but we had "excellent" service from "Kara" and our food was amazing! The prices were high but well worth it due to the excellent service and amazing food. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
