WOW! – Seriously! Our concierge told us to check this place out. It took a bit to find it because the direct route (thru a mall) was blocked by a wedding. We had to walk all the way around the mall to find it. It was SOOOO worth it!
Dennis the bartender was great! Fantastic rum Sidecar!
The food was phenomenal! The restaurant has charm and character. The staff is very attentive. Prices are reasonable for such good quality. You have to check this place out!
Great food! – My co-worker and I decided to go out for dinner. Our concierge recommended The Cosmopolitan. The walk was close to our hotel. When we got there we were seated very promptly even though we did not have a reservation. Our waiter was extremely nice and knowledgeable of the food. He never made us feel stupid for asking questions about the food. After ordering, our drinks and some amazing bread were served promptly along with my salad appetizer. Not too long after I was finished with my salad, our food came. The presentation was fabulous and the food was delicious! Some of the homemade ingredients and fresh produce were fantastic! I can't wait to go back. With such a high quality of food, I was surprised to see my bill which was at least $20 less than what I had expected to pay for dinner that night.
Nice atmosphere slightly overpriced – Enjoyed most of the dishes, desserts, and drinks but check was overpriced. Blah bleh bloh ehem
Enjoyed most of the dishes, desserts, and drinks but check was overpriced.
Good place to eat – The pork chop was good and tasty. Killer cosmo cocktail. Good service. The dessert was good too. Must try.
Exceptional American cuisine with a California streak lives up to its posh surroundings. – The grand-scale room achieves both richness and intimacy with sonorous dark-wood paneling complemented by candlelit tables, while contemporary art and architectural floral arrangements provide a modern vibe. A somewhat older crowd appreciates the formal service and unobtrusive live jazz. Traditional American fare is updated with top-notch seasonal ingredients and imaginative execution. An appetizer of light, rich goat cheese gnocchi is topped with crispy fried-sage leaves, and in a Caesar salad, a generous portion of pancetta and toothsome polenta cubes stand in for croutons. Gorgeously pure Niman Ranch carpaccio is well-paired with portobello fries. Tempura green beans and wasabi aioli give a kick to sushi-quality seared yellowfin tuna. Slices of grilled Angus hanger steak are complemented by spicy-tart house-made steak sauce, but it's the Yukon gold-jalapeno mashed potatoes that steal the show. A popular desert choice is the Tahitian vanilla milkshake served with oven-fresh chocolate chunk cookies.
Best Date Place – My favorite San Francisco restaurant and the staff there is incredible. The food is delish and the drinks are great!
Desserts are yummy - service poor – Late Friday night w/ the girls for some dessert - Chocolate Trio 8 (Dark chocolate bundt cake, Milk chocolate crme brulee, White chocolate-espresso parfait); Warm pear tarte tatin w/ Caramel sauce & Cinnamon Gelato; and the seasonal sorbet. All were yummy except for the cracker/cookie that accompanied the sorbet.
Service was crap. We felt rushed out by the waitress and the busboy despite the restaurant not closing for another 1.5 hours.
Live music is a nice touch! Not busy on a Friday night...perhaps of its location?
Good Place to Take Parents – I took my parents here for dinner on a Friday evening when they were visiting from out of town...they loved it! My mom loved her tuna steak and my dad split a 2-person steak special with me. I would definitely go again, since it is conveniently located near my work.
CLASSY!!! – I took a few of my VERY picky business clients out to lunch at the Cosmopolitan and I they couldnt believe how delicious the food was, how knowledgable and friendly the service was and how swanky and fancy the atmosphere. They loved it so much we came back later in the week in the evening when they had live a piano. They even validated our parking which is a gem in the financial district, theres a garage next door, so convenient. Everything was pretty fast in the day too, but we took our time in the evening. They have a great happy hour. Ill definitely be going back for after work cocktails. This place is fabulous!!!
Wonderful surprise of a find – A friend and I took to the streets of SF one night in search of a new place to try. I remembered a conversation with a nice woman during last year's ski season. She told me that her son just opened a restaurant in the SoMa area called Cosmopolitan Cafe. We took a risk that definitely paid off. I found the menu and surrounding to be comfortable and intimately dazzling without too much pretense. I would definitely return with a date. The prices were reasonable compared with other options in the area. The only drawback was the noise from the bar. There was a game on and the raucous fans drowned out our conversation. We had a movie to catch anyways and the noise helped us stay focus on devouring our dessert. Check it out!
