closed. Word from neighboring businesses is that the restaurant was sold and closed up last week. Too bad.
Closed for good?. I live in the neighborhood and Springwater Grill is/was one of my favorite happy hour and brunch locations. But driving by last night, I saw that the windows are covered in brown paper and the phone number has been disconnected. It seems that another longtime restaurant in the Sellwood/Moreland neighborhood has been claimed by the economic downturn. So sorry to see them go and I truly hope that they will be replaced by a different restaurant - not another boring and expensive home goods store, such as what happened to the Capriel's Bistro location down the street.
We live in the neighborhood and were completely disappointed. We went on Sunday night for dinner. Initially we had to wait to be seated. We had to wait to order our bottle of wine, and then had to wait 15 more min before it was brought to the table. The owner apologized for the wait but nothing changed. He commented it was busy-really? I would say that 20% of the tables were full. I hate to see what "busy" really means.
Our food was boring and tasteless. The guac and salsa were ok-small portion of chips. When we asked for more chips all hell broke loose. I mentioned the wait time and the waitstaff had a major attitude. I thought we were the customer? The owner came over and was very unprofessional-typical Portland response. He then proceeded to interupt us with his condescending tone throughout our dinner. At one point my husband had to tell him to leave.
I had the smoked pork ribs-they were tough and the sauce tasted like something out of a kraft bottle of pre-made sauce-yuck! My husband's medium-rare steak was a piece of rubber and fat stuck on a huge portion of boring mashed potatoes and overcooked greens. The best part of the meal was the strawberry sorbet.
Would not reccommend this place for any meal!
Mi esposo is the best cook there. Mi esposo is the best cook there. He knows what the hell he's doing.I like the hamburgers they have there.Ive neva been inside there, but mi sposo brings us sum hamburgers from here.
greasy. egg white omlette sitting in a pool of grease. not appealing. Wait staff nice and attentive though. Need to work on food prep. someone ordering egg whites probably doesn't want them bathed in grease.
Do you like mayo and oil?.
My fiancee and I went to Springwater Grill tonight hoping to experience another great restaurant in our neighborhood and were completely disappointed.
We were greeted by a server who tried to take our drink order before we were even seated at the table. The rest of the service can't honestly be faulted since they explained they were shorthanded and were obviously sprinting to get to the next table.
We started with the calamari which was fairly tasty except for the cup of lightly spiced, green tinted mayonnaise they served it with. My fiancee ordered the crab cake entree, while I had the rainbow trout. The crab cakes seemed straight from the freezer with a thick breading and deep fried until dark brown. They were enough to turn the stomach. Her rice was blended with what appeared to the same mayo that came with the calamari and finished with two heaping glops of what definitely was the mayo. Her entire plate sat in a puddle of oil.
My rainbow trout was acceptable except for the shear volume of oil it was cooked in. The green beans came out in the consistency you can only expect from the can. My coconut rice came out without the mayo dressing, so I did have something to fill my stomach and absorb the rest of the mess.
The bar area really looks cute and we may stop in for a drink at another time but will never drop $60 for two at this greasy spoon again.
Go for Brunch!!. I have been there a few times before for brunch , we took our out of towners to brunch last weekend and we really enjoyed the brunch. You get fresh fruit and breads (includes banana, pumpkin?) and a list of breakfast/brunch and a nice list of lunches for a good price. it is in Selllwood neighborhood so you can continue to shop and enjoy the day . I am going to see what dinner is like next
Tasty fish dishes. My mom, sister & I ate here on Saturday night after having a negative service experience elsewhere in Sellwood. I've been here once before with my husband & their salmon tacos for lunch were wonderful. Upon leaving Saturday night my mom & sister were fans of the restaurant, as well. Our waitress was very nice which was a pleasant relief. I love the decor of this place. It's obviously upper scale as you walk in but not stuffy. They've created several different eating areas within one large room in a clever way that really makes it feel more intimate. Visually, the bar is a delight. My mom had a vegan stew that she raved about while my sister had a salmon dish & I had the hazelnut-crusted trout. All 3 dishes were enjoyed tremendously by each of us. The wine list was substantial without being overwhelming and they have a few more value-priced wines by the glass mixed in which is always nice to see. Having been to Italy, I know wine doesn't have to cost $10 a glass to be good & it's refreshing to know some restaurants in our area understand that, as well (albeit not many). Definitely give this place a try; for lunch or dinner, it's a sure thing.
Great Food - Excellent Service - Gotta do it!. Just showing up, or coming in with a big crowd? You got a great place for a Sunday brunch, afternoon light snack or the biggest meal of the day. The menu is simple, the choices delectable, yet your meal portions are always negotiable with the servers and I've never been disappointed with the preparation, the presentation, or the timing. These folks know what they're doing, care about your experience, and make sure you've got what you want. There's enough room between server visits to talk and eat, and they're always around for the short run needs like mustard, more coffee, or a dessert menu. I've never been disappointed or left hungry in the 10 or 12 times that I've visited. On a "Fancy Scale" you can come casual or dressed for a concert and still expect tip top treatment. 10 being stuffed-shirt fancy, 1 being a burger joint sitting outside with grease running off your elbow, I'd put them at about a 7.5. Enjoy!
Excellent food and servcie for a very reasonable price.
This has become our favorite restaurant in town, since it is reasonably priced enough to go frequently, but nice enough to feel like a night out. They've always been great with our daughter and the core staff are fantastic.
As far as Westmoreland goes, I would place Springwater as miles ahead of Caprial's and Gino's (Papa Hydn's is still the best, but you pay a lot more for it).
