Handmade tortillas, fresh ingredients. Love their chips and salsa. Loteria Grill is my go to Mexican stand.
Meat eaters should try the slow-roasted conchinta pibil or the soulful mole. The mushroom tacos are a vegetarian delight. Nachos are a crowd pleaser.
Farmers Market staple specializes in authentic Tinga, mole poblano, albondiga and more tacos, burritos and sopes.
The only authentic Mexican place in Southern California. – I am from Mexico City, born and raised and I was very frustrated that I couldn't find any good Mexican places in Southern California. I tried literally everything from the Spanish Kitchen, through the taco trucks passing by East LA and the Valley, and all of them disappointed me terribly.
When I first went to La Loteria I thought that it would be another "Americanized version" of Mexican food but I was deeply pleased when I tried their dishes because it had the real deal. I've tried almost everything on their menu and I have never been slightly disappointed.
Yes, it is a little bit expensive, but in LA what is not expensive? besides, if money is the price I have to pay to get good Mexican food, I think it is worth it.
The best Mexican food in Southern California and by extension, the entire United States.
I'd hardly call it Mexican. – I'm in agreement with the last review. Although I am not as saavy as to the origins of dishes and such, I can safely say that on its best day, La Lotteria doesn't come close to even the smallest hole in the wall in the "real L.A." The farmers market is always highly overated and overpriced however, so I didn't have many expectations to begin with, just an apetite and not enough time to go elsewhere. Despite the fact that I was starving. Do the owners even realize that some of the ingredients they use are not even commonplace in Mexican food? Truly, I was disappointed and will NOT be eating there again. Just travel about 10 miles east of this place and 10 out of 10 of the restaurants you find will exceed the standards of this place for half the price.
Don't believe the hype – after reading all the reviews, i just had try this place out......wow! i guess 99% of you don't know what
authentic mexican food is. once i saw nachos on the menu, i should have left! overpriced, bad service,
the guy who made the salsa must be from "new york city". I tried the mole what a joke....send the chef to
"la fonda de santa clara" in puebla ,mex. maybe someone can teach him how to make real mole. if
chefs really want to capture what is real authentic mexican food they need spend more time in places like
puebla (chiles en nogada, moles de pipian verde y rojo and the incredible mole poblano) as for tasty tacos
hell any gut mobile can pop out better tasting tacos than these. folks catch a cheap flight from tijuana thru
volaris to puebla 160 round trip. puebla, guanajuato, oaxaca and the state of mexico have incredible dishes compared to these imposters. don't be fooled by the hype!!!!!
Great, Fresh Mexican Food – The Farmer's Market offers so many delicious options, but 9 times out of 10, Loteria is always the top spot. The papas con rajas burrito provides an interesting mix of flavors and is very filling. As mentioned in other reviews, the watermelon aqua fresca is delicious and perfect for warm days. Even though Loteria does not offer margaritas, you can grab a beer from the 360 Bar directly behind it. The major downside to Loteria Grill is that it is highly addictive!
Best taquitos – These are the juiciest most savory taquitos I have ever had, a little on the pricey side for mexican food though. The mole sauce is a little sweeter than Conquistidor but made very well. The nachos are delicious, the enchiladas and tamales are mouth watering. The chile verde sauce is excellent. The watermelon juice is fresh. I just wish that the prices were a little more fair.
sooooo yummy! – I love their pollo en mole poblano sopes. It's absolutely delicious!!! And I can get full off of just one. I also think their plantains are the best I've ever had. Kinda soft, but with a perfectly caramalized edge. There's always a line to this place, but if you sit on the barstools, they'll take you're order without you having to wait in line. No sodas, but agua frescas. Yum! Horchata! Most likely the best place to eat at the Farmer's Market.
Consistently Great Tacos and Fabulous Watermelon Juice – Despite our close proximity to Mexico, I find it very difficult to find good Mexican food in Los Angeles. Perhaps it's the fear of the use of lard in this town. Fortunately there are still places like Loteria Grill willing to defy "healthy" trends in order to provide yummy, greasy food. To be fair, I've only had their tacos and quesadillas but I found both to be flavorful, spicy and filling - not to mention cheap. The watermelon juice - so sweet and refreshing - was also a pleasant surprise. Too bad they aren't a formal restaurant with margaritas and stuff...that would push the rating higher.
Sope con papas rajas – Despite all of the other options at the Farmer's Market, I have to stop here for a sope every time I visit.
Best Mexican Food In Los Angeles, and by extension, The World – I feel like I need to be over the top and say this is the best Mexican food in the world to correct for the people that need to have their doctors raise their psych meds who said this place was awful. Bad taste in your mouth for hours? Pleasus. To say that is, without condition, insanity. Come to Reseda to have the best Mexican food? Come on. The Valley is good for one thing only: Dirty Movies.
This place is so awesome that if you don't like it you have a character flaw and you are probably a radical extremist trying to deny Americans pleasure.
Just go and eat there because you will like it or love it. And if you don't go, the terrorists win.
I WILL NEVER GO TO ANOTHER MEXICAN SPOT AGAIN!! – TODAY ME AND MY HUSBAND WENT TO THE FARMER'S MARKET LOOKING FOR SOMETHING NEW TO TRY(WE USUALLY EAT AT THE SAME SPOTS) WE HAPPENED TO SEE A LONG LINE AT THE LOTERIA GRILL..SO WE DECIDED TO TRY SOMETHING NEW AND I AM SO GLAD WE DID!!I ORDERED THE POTATO TACO WITH BLACK BEANS AND THE GREEN RICE(WHITE RICE WITH MINT LEAVES) WATERMELON JUICE AND MY HUSBAND ORDERED THE CHICKEN NACHOS AND THE FRIED PLANTAINS WITH CREMA MEXICANA..ALL I CAN SAY IS MMMM MMMM GOOD!! I WILL NEVER GO TO ANOTHER MEXICAN SPOT AGAIN( I LOVED CASA VEGA IN THE VALLEY,BUT I CAN NEVER GO TO ANOTHER PLACE AGAIN!!)ANYONE THAT LOVES MEXICAN SHOULD TRY THIS PLACE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!
