Snobby – i've had encounters with this place twice. Once, a friend was in town and we (me, the friend, and my boyfriend) decided to try the place as I almost live in Bwood Village and had walked by many times.
It was a Friday night, it was busy, and, granted, we didn't have a reservation, but they treated us like crap. Just rude, looking us up and down, etc. Needless to say we left and went to Peppone across the way. Much better choice.
Another time some friends we're having an afternoon glass of wine there and asked me to come by. I had my dog with me and they asked me (rudely!) to please tie him about 20 ft away. I understand the concept behind not wanting dogs near a restaurant, but they could have been more friendly.
So, I've never actually eaten here, but they are rude. Period.
Best Food EVER!! – Best food ever!!! My compliments to the best chefs in the world. The best Italian food anywhere!! The whole evening at the restaurant was amazing and the service was great! Theirs no where in the west coast that brings the great taste of Italy better than the Divino I say FIVE stars!!!
overrated – I've dined in Italy and have had authentic Italian food in NYC and this does not come even close. Pizza crust was like a saltine cracker, not thin and chewy. There was too much tomato sauce on the pizza and they don't use fresh mozzarella. Pasta was not al dente. The tiramisu was tasty but it wasn't tiramisu. It was all cream and sponge cake with cocoa powder. There was no espresso or rum in it that I could taste.
Authentic Italian cooking! – As a native from Tuscany, Italy, I can honestly say that the delicious meals served at DIVINO remind me of home.
The owners take great pride in providing original high quality traditional Italian dishes usually found only in a few select country side restaurants throughout northern and central Italy. The pizza's crust is appropriately thin and the Tiramisu rivals the best I ever tasted in my life!
The intimate family setting combined with the professional service just add to the fact that DIVINO is a little culinary diamond in the rough.
Great, great, great food! – Wonderfully flavorful food, exceptional service, pleasant atmosphere, attention to every detail!
As some of the reviewers pointed out, I was surprised of how simple sounding dishes tasted sooo good! The food taste was very authentic (I've traveled through northern Italy quite a bit). And, definitely try the deserts - tiramisu is my favorite, it is rarely this good even in Italy!
Worth a cross-country trip! – I was visiting my uncle in West LA from Indiana a few years ago when he suggested that we go to Divino for dinner because he knew the owner. After just one meal, Divino rose to the number one spot on my list of favorite restaurants. Before I discuss the food, I think it's worth mentioning that the owner of Divino, Goran, greets every single customer at the door and personally escorts you to your table. He also makes sure that he sees you out the door at the end of your visit. A very welcoming atmosphere. The two types of bread they serve before the entrees are amazing. I'm not sure what the exact names are, but my favorite is the thin crispy bread lightly brushed with olive oil. I had the penne ortolana for dinner and the chocolate souffle for desert. The pasta was cooked al dente and the ortolana sauce was full of flavor--the sauce didn't override the individual sauteed vegetables in it. The chocolate souffle took about a half an hour to make, but it was well worth the wait! A dark chocolate lover's paradise--slightly firm on the outside and thick and gooey on the inside--absolute heaven! I have been back to Los Angeles twice since then, and Divino is the first place I go to eat, and over the course of a week's vacation there, I dined there four times. I sit at home in Indiana and remember and crave the food from Divino.
Brentwood dining destination offers light Italian fare to a tony, body-conscious clientele. – In Short
Soft-green walls, black-and-white photos and high ceilings illuminate the affluent lunch crowd and well-dressed couples who populate this tucked-away trattoria. The northern Italian menu includes daily specials, such as linguine with shrimp, pesto and beets or porcini mushroom risotto. A wood-burning oven turns out thin-crust pizzas like the Ortolana, generously topped with zucchini and artichokes. Classic starters include house spinach salad with goat cheese, tomatoes and pine nuts, lightly tossed with a lemon-infused dressing.
Home Italian cookin' – If you are looking for a cozy joint this is the place to be.. we love this resturant. closest to italy you will get being out here in LA. must eat.
not that great – The place is small and cozy but the food is average and the service is extremely slow. There very particular about sitting couples in two seaters unless you're important...then you get a four seater table. I was annoyed that they wouldn't sit my mother and me at a four seater table after we asked to be moved away from the LOUD couple next to us. The first time they moved us, they just sat un next to another noisy couple. When I asked if we could have a big table (just because we wanted to enjoy our meal in peace) they claimed they were reserved. C'mon...early tuesday night? There were about 7 open tables that we could have easily sat in. What really agervated me is that they sat one man, and one woman each at there own big table b/c they knew the host. Then another couple got a four seater next to the window. The food isn't all that good........People that rated it best in LA must work there or something. Pizzacotta and La scala are much better places for good italian.
Amazing food – For this area of Brentwood, you can't get a better meal at a better price. The restaurant was surprisingly romantic and the food was a treat. I had the prosciutto pizza and my friends tried the pasta. We all loved it. Good job Divino.
