Hip shops, restaurants and Ivy League-influence make this a natural people-watching paradise. – Features
There are plenty of sights here. Topping the list are the street performers, most of whom are actually quite talented. Resembling an outdoor mall, Harvard Square is home to big retailers like the Gap, as well as trendy, locally-owned boutiques.

The Experience
Love humanity? Settle on the terrace of Au Bon Pain in front of Harvard Center. Here is the eye of the Square's storm: Tourists mingle with multi-pierced guitarists, tweedy Brattle Street residents with students and chess masters. Stop by Cardullo's for some gourmet goodies or visit one of the various literary outlets, like WordsWorth Books and the Grolier Poetry Bookshop. For affordable ethnic favorites, there's Cafe of India. Try the Vietnamese chain, Pho Pasteur, or get ice cream to go from Toscanini's.

Always Relaxing – It's a nice place to go and relax with a nice cup of coffee or tea. No stresses or worries at the square... and you can always walk around the lovely campus of Harvard.

BRATTLE CINEMA – Harvard Square is great.

Check out the Brattle cinema for cutting edge movies, not your usual run of the mill movies, and get a bite to eat @ Casablanca's.

Great for people watching. The COOP bookstore has a great selection of books, new and used, plus a bunch of "cheap discounted" books!

I have brought my kids here, but not at night!

Can't be beat – Great street performers, good restaurants and shops, people-watching, loads of bookstores, and HARVARD. Grab your coffee, have a seat, and leave your worries behind. This is what life is about!

One of my favorite shopping places – I love Harvard Square. I used to go there very often from my college days. It's convenient to shop or eat, or to meet up with friends. It also helps that there is a T stop and the #1 bus stop right in front of it. You'll see a mixture of people - business people and students and street artists. You'll also see a mixture of stores - from Crate & Barrel to little art boutiques to a variety of restaurants. What a great way to spend an afternoon.

sad but true – i still love going back to the square after spending my college days there, but it dismays me greatly that the tasty has been replaced by a big, ugly abercrombie & fitch store. ick. even as late as the early '90s, it was all about keeping the chain stores out. now it is, indeed, like a mall. but like one other wise reviewer wrote, it is the home the world's best cheesesteak: pinocchio's.
